Introduction: It has been well established that grip strength measurements can be useful as a benchmark for comparing the efficacy of different treatment modalities as well as an aid in the assessment of the progress of disease and rehabilitation. Grip strength has also been shown to be a representative marker for sociodemographic factors.

Methods: Participants were selected from five different regions in a cross-sectional manner from the streets of Trinidad and Tobago, and a Jamar hand dynamometer was used to assess the metrics of hand grip, palmar grip, tip pinch, and key pinch across both hands.

The nutcracker phenomenon, also known as left renal vein entrapment, occurs when there is extrinsic compression of the left renal vein, most often between the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. Nutcracker syndrome refers to the constellation of clinical symptoms that may arise from the nutcracker phenomenon, typically inclusive of haematuria, flank/pelvic pain, orthostatic proteinuria and (in male patients) varicocele. We provide a short review of the nutcracker syndrome including various diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.

Neurological syndrome amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) affects motor neurons and is characterized by progressive motor neuron loss in the brain and spinal cord. ALS starts with mainly focal onset but when the disease progresses, it spreads to different parts of the body, with survival limits of 2-5 years after disease initiation. To date, only supportive care is provided for ALS patients, and no effective treatment or cure has been discovered.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurological disease characterized by the progressive loss of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. No effective therapeutic strategies have been established thus far, and therefore there is a significant unmet need for effective therapeutics to arrest the disease and reverse the pathologies induced by it. Although the cause of ALS is not well-defined, it appears to be heterogenous.

We describe the case of an 82-year-old female referred to the vascular clinic for further evaluation and management of suspected inferior vena cava (IVC) thrombosis. She had previously presented to the general practitioner with a one-week history of vague abdominal pain in the right and left loins. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen and magnetic resonance angiography/magnetic resonance venography (MRA/MRV) revealed a 10 cm filling defect in the IVC, with the inferior margin of ≈5.

Upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding is a common condition that can cause hemodynamic instability and death if left untreated. Endoscopic hemostasis is often successful; however, some patients may develop refractory bleeding. Pharmacologic management with octreotide is beneficial in patients with variceal bleeding and has been shown in some studies to be effective in refractory bleeding due to angiodysplasia.

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus, diabetic foot (DF) disease and, as a result, lower extremity amputation rates remain high in the Caribbean. This study was undertaken to determine whether Caribbean countries have designated individuals that monitor DF disease and whether there are DF protocols consistent with the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) guidance documents. Relevant DF health care personnel(s) from the CARICOM and Dutch Caribbean countries were called or sent questionnaires regarding the presence of structured programs to monitor and manage DF problems in the population.

Gingivobuccal and oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas are commonly considered together as a single clinical entity for staging and treatment purposes. Though there is data suggesting a significant difference between SCC of various oral cavity subsites, very few studies have compared clinicopathological characteristics between the tongue and gingivobuccal primaries. We retrospectively analysed 225 patients with biopsy-proven gingivobuccal (GB) and oral tongue (OT) SCC operated between April 1, 2018 and April 30, 2021 in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, India to compare their clinicopathological characteristics.

Purpose: Inclusion of depth of invasion (DOI) in the recent AJCC/UICC TNM staging for oral cancer has incorporated the concept of tumor third dimension and its prognostic importance. However, there is no uniform consensus about measuring DOI at clinical setting at present. For more practical reasons, radiological tumor thickness (rTT) is a simple and practical measurement which can be used as a clinical predictor of pDOI.

Male-specific late effects after hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) include genital chronic graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), hypogonadism, sexual dysfunction, infertility, and subsequent malignancies. They may be closely intertwined and cause prolonged morbidity and decreased quality of life after HCT. We provide a systematic review of male-specific late effects in a collaboration between transplant physicians, endocrinologists, urologists, dermatologists, and sexual health professionals through the Late Effects and Quality of Life Working Committee of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research, and the Transplant Complications Working Party of the European Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

Thyroid Hemiagenesis (THA) is an uncommon, congenital anomaly defined by the absence of one thyroid lobe with or without the isthmus. Reports suggest it may be found more often in regions endemic for hypothyroidism. Genetic abnormalities are thought to have a role based on findings in monozygotic twins.

Introduction: The concept of selective neck dissection (SND) in locally advanced oral cancers is emerging. Contemporary studies support the feasibility of SND in selected node-positive oral cancers with early primaries. Nevertheless, the suitability of SND in clinically node-positive (cN+) oral cancers with advanced primaries (T3/T4) is unknown.

Margin status is one of the most important prognostic factors in oral cancers. Intraoperative frozen section (FS) can be performed to ensure a margin-negative resection, however the method of FS assessment is debatable. The aim of this study was to compare the defect-driven (DDA) versus specimen-driven (SDA) approach for intraoperative assessment of tumour margins in oral cancer resections and their impact on loco-regional recurrence and survival.

Unlabelled: Reconstruction of large and complex defects arising from resection of advanced oral cancers requires free flaps or multi-staged reconstructions using a combination of pedicled flaps. Bipaddle (pectoralis major myocutaneous (PMMC) flap is a good alternative for reconstruction of such defects, especially in low-middle-income countries (LMIC). However, care should be taken while expanding its limits to avoid unnecessary morbidity.
