Background: When the first known US case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) was reported in early 2020, little was known about the impact of this novel virus on the cystic fibrosis community. As the majority of individuals with CF have chronic lung disease, this population was initially considered to be at high risk for severe disease as infection with a multitude of viruses has proven to cause pulmonary exacerbation. SARS-CoV-2 virus has proven challenging to study given the multiple disease manifestations, range of severity, and wave-like phenomenon that varies geographically.

Understanding the metabolic pathways involved can provide insights into disease progression and treatment. Untargeted metabolomics of livers from mice with early-stage steatosis uncovered decreased methylated metabolites, suggesting altered one-carbon metabolism.

Most of the new asthma therapies have focused on type 2 (T2) inflammation, leaving an unmet need for innovative research into mechanisms of asthma beyond T2 and immunity. An international group of investigators developed the International Collaborative Asthma Network (ICAN) with the goal of sharing innovative research on disease mechanisms, developing new technologies and therapies, organising pilot studies and engaging early-stage career investigators from across the world.

Each aspect of the deformity must be carefully evaluated before any surgical planning. The goal of surgery should be an improvement in symptoms by creating a controllable foot with a reduction of deforming forces.

Here, we have elucidated the role of nuclear receptors, estrogen-related receptor alpha and gamma (ERRα/γ) in regulating myofibrillar composition, contractility, and exercise capacity in skeletal muscle. We used muscle-specific single or double (DKO) ERRα/γ knockout mice to investigate the effect of ERRα/γ deletion on muscle and exercise parameters.

The Cochrane Multiple Sclerosis and Rare Disease of CNS Group, in collaboration with the Cochrane Neurological Sciences Field, launched a priority setting exercise with the aim of prioritizing pressing questions to ensure that future systematic reviews are as useful as possible to the people who need them, in all countries, regardless of their economic status.
Method: Sixteen high priority questions on different aspects of MS were developed by members of a multi-stakeholder priority setting Steering Group (SG).
Introduction: Individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) may be at increased risk of pulmonary embolism (PE). Symptoms of PE overlap substantially with those of CF respiratory exacerbations. CF patients commonly undergo chest computed tomography (CT) angiograms (CTPA) to evaluate for PE, but little is known about the clinical presentation and diagnosis of PE in this population.

The complications of DKA are life threatening and necessitate rapid identification and management. Pediatric complications include cerebral edema, venous thrombosis, acute kidney injury, and severe infections including necrotizing fasciitis and mucormycosis.

This high-biomass-producing strain, Tribonema minus UTEX B 3156, was isolated from a wastewater treatment plant in California. It is stable in outdoor raceway ponds and is a promising industrial feedstock for biofuels and bioproducts.

Yellow-green algae of the genus Tribonema are candidates for production of biofuels and other bioproducts. We report on a filamentous isolate from an outdoor raceway polyculture growing on municipal reclaimed wastewater which we classified as T.

The scale of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection (COVID-19) and the controversial suggestion that HCQ is a treatment option have led to a significant increase in HCQ use. HCQ poisoning should be at the top-of-mind for emergency providers in cases of toxic ingestion.

However, MAC is associated with examination delays, increased cost, and safety concerns. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the success rate of nonsedated neuroradiologic MRI studies in children 1-7 years old and to investigate factors associated with success.

Although there appears to be an increased incidence of thromboembolic disease in patients with COVID-19 infection, recommendations regarding anticoagulation are lacking. We present the case of a 61-year-old woman with clinically significant venous and arterial thromboemboli in the setting of COVID-19 infection requiring tissue plasminogen activator (tPA).

In developing this statement, the AAFD consensus statement panel attempted to address the most relevant issues facing the foot and ankle surgeon today, using the best evidence-based literature available. The panel created and researched 16 statements and generated opinions on the appropriateness of the statements.

This system regulates behaviors including but not limited to virulence and biofilm formation. We focused on , a human opportunistic pathogen that is involved in acute and chronic lung infections and which disproportionately affects people with cystic fibrosis.

As payment models transition from reimbursement for volume to reimbursement for value, pharmacy departments must demonstrate improvements in patient care outcomes and quality measure performance. The transition begins with an awareness of quality measures for which pharmacists and pharmacy personnel can demonstrate accountability across the continuum of care.

These recommendations, however, need to be further refined based on more systematic data. We discuss an illustrative first-ever case of synchronous CRC arising in a post-lung transplant individual with CF within the recommended surveillance interval after a well-documented prior normal colonoscopy.

Current treatment modalities often provide adequate relief but fail to address underlying conditions. Regenerative cellular modalities aim to restore anatomical function in degenerative conditions which may cause low back pain.

Oleaginous microorganisms that are capable of accumulating triacylglycerides (TAGs) and fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs), such as Rhodococcus and Yarrowia species, can be used to produce second-generation biofuels from non-food competing carbon sources. These "microbiorefineries" provide a pathway to upgrade agricultural and industrial waste streams to fungible fuels or precursors to chemicals and materials.
