Sickle cell disease (SCD) is accompanied by several complications, which emanate from the sickling of erythrocytes due to a point mutation in the -globin chain of hemoglobin. Sickled erythrocytes are unable to move smoothly through small blood capillaries and therefore, cause vaso occlusion and severe pain. Apart from pain, continuous lysis of fragile sickled erythrocytes leads to the release of heme, which is a strong activator of the NLRP3 inflammasome, thus producing chronic inflammation in sickle cell disease.

Introduction: Operative mortality in an acute post-myocardial infarction (AMI) ventricular septal rupture (VSR) is high. In addition to ventricular dysfunction, friable myocardium adds to the technical difficulty of the operation. In a modified infarct exclusion technique, the right ventricle is left undisturbed and the free edge of the pericardial patch is incorporated in the sutures while closing the left ventriculotomy.

Serum Lactate-Albumin Ratio: Soothsayer for Outcome in Sepsis.

Aim: The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of the serum lactate/albumin (L/A) ratio as a prognostic marker of sepsis syndrome.

Materials And Methods: This study was conducted in the Internal Medicine Department at Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital with a sample size of 160 cases of sepsis. The serum L/A ratio was calculated on admission and correlated with deaths and morbidity.

Acral involvement in lichen scrofulosorum: A diagnostic oddity with distinctive features on dermoscopy.

A commonly underdiagnosed harbinger of visceral tuberculosis, lichen scrofulosorum classically manifests as centripetally located erythematous to violaceous cutaneous papules. Perifollicular and perieccrine tuberculoid granulomas constitute the histologic hallmark. We report a case of lichen scrofulosorum with involvement of the acral areas which is unusual.

Hence, this research was aimed to develop drug-loaded biodegradable polycaprolactone nanoparticles (PCL-NPs) such as OSM-loaded PCL-NPs (PCL-OSM-NPs) and chitosan fabricated OSM-loaded PCL-NPs (CS-PCL-OSM-NPs) to achieve active-targeting of OSM in the cancerous lung tissue.

It is shown that a subluminal electromagnetic plasma wave, propagating in phase with a background subluminal gravitational wave in a dispersive medium, can undergo parametric amplification. On the other hand, carvacrol (CV) has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cytotoxic, and hepatoprotective properties that could reduce undue toxicity caused by DTX chemotherapy. Thus, in order to overcome the challenges posed by DTX's poor aqueous solubility, low permeability, hepatic first pass, and systemic toxicities, we have developed a novel solid self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (S-SNEDDS) co-loaded with DTX and CV.

Treatment of intractable cholangitis in children with biliary atresia: Impact on outcome.

Objectives: To evaluate the response and outcome with prolonged intravenous antibiotics including home-based intravenous antibiotics in children with intractable cholangitis (IC) after Kasai portoenterostomy (KPE) for biliary atresia (BA).

Methods: A retrospective review of treatment and outcome of children with IC post KPE (no resolution after four weeks of antibiotics) was done between 2014 and 2020. A protocol-based antibiotic regimen was used based on sensitivity and hospital antibiogram.

In this paper, a mathematical model for assessing the impact of COVID-19 on tuberculosis disease is proposed and analysed. There are pieces of evidence that patients with Tuberculosis (TB) have more chances of developing the SARS-CoV-2 infection. The mathematical model is qualitatively and quantitatively analysed by using the theory of stability analysis.

Assessing clinical and molecular outcomes of prophylactic thermal pulsation therapy on ocular surface health following refractive surgery.

Purpose: To study ocular surface signs, symptoms, and tear film composition following prophylactic thermal pulsation therapy (TPT) prior to refractive surgery, and to compare these outcomes with those who underwent TPT after refractive surgery.

Methods: Patients with mild-to-moderate evaporative dry eye disease (DED) and/or meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) undergoing refractive surgery were included. Group 1 patients received TPT (LipiFlow) prior to laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK; n = 32, 64 eyes), and Group 2 patients received TPT three months after LASIK (n = 27, 52 eyes).

Power electronic converters are becoming more critical as renewable energy sources are linked to distributed generation systems. In this study, a "Two-Tier Converter" for high voltage gain with a low duty ratio, low voltage stress for the given voltage gain, continuous input current, and a grounded load arrangement have been made from two stages of a conventional boost converter. The analysis, modes of operation, and effects of the inductors' internal resistances on voltage gain have been discussed.

Radiotherapy (RT) is the standard-of-care for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), where the post-RT clearance of plasma EBV DNA is prognostic. Currently, it is not known whether the post-RT clearance of plasma EBV DNA is related to the presence of circulating T-cell subsets. Blood samples from NPC patients were used to assess the frequency of T-cell subsets relating to differentiation, co-signaling and chemotaxis.
