Background: Heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) represents a major comorbidity in the elderly and is associated with cognitive impairment (CoI) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In this context, there is an increase in oxidative stress and platelet activation biomarkers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of 6 months' treatment with SGLT2i on functional, mood-related, and cognitive aspects, assessed by performing a comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA), and on oxidative stress and platelet activation biomarkers, in a cohort of HFpEF elderly patients with T2DM.

Heart failure (HF) is associated to endothelial dysfunction that promotes the increase of arterial stiffness thus augmenting myocardial damage. Sacubitril/Valsartan is used in the treatment of HF reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and has been proven effective in reducing cardiovascular disease (CVD) progression and all-cause mortality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Sacubitril/Valsartan on endothelial dysfunction, arterial stiffness, oxidative stress levels and platelets activation in patients with HFrEF, at baseline and after 6 months of treatment.

Heart failure (HF) represents a widespread health problem characterized by high morbidity and mortality. Sacubitril/Valsartan (sac/val) has improved clinical prognosis in patients affected by HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and durability of sac/val treatment on the clinical, hemodynamic and echocardiographic parameters, in real-life consecutive HFrEF outpatients, evaluated up to 2-years of follow-up.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the application of thrombolytic treatment in central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), its real benefit, safety and possible indications for treatment.

Methods: We searched the PubMed, Cochrane and Google Scholar databases delving first into the effectiveness of the traditional treatment for CRAO, and then comparing them with new treatment strategies with intra venous or intra arterial fibrinolysis.

Results: Whereas small retrospective and open-label observational trials support the use of thrombolytic therapy, multicenter randomized trials failed to demonstrate a significant visual improvement with this new strategy.

Increased levels of uric acid (UA) have been shown to be correlated with many clinical conditions. Uric acid may adversely affect the insulin signalling pathway inducing insulin resistance (IR). Several studies report the association between arterial stiffness (AS), an early indicator of atherosclerosis, and UA.

Aim: To develop a critical pathway for primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) diagnosis intended to be efficient, to unify criteria, reduce resource use and minimize costs to the health system.

Methods: We performed a systematic search on PubMed, Cochrane, Embase and ClinicalTrials.org databases and classified the quality of evidence from level I through III.

Background: Cystoid macular edema (CME) remains an important complication after cataract surgery. There is no consensus about how to prevent this frequent complication. The purpose of this study was to conceive an effective anti-inflammatory strategy using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) together with regular treatment with corticosteroids to prevent CME and improve visual acuity after cataract surgery in patients without risk factors.
