We present a case of acne successfully treated with a topical spray containing live bacteria. The live bacteria used in the spray contain CRISPR, and adaptive immune system in the bacteria that are used to disable viral replication. Because acne skin contains bacteria in the microbiome where a shift toward non-CRISPR bacteria occurs, these bacteria are susceptible to bacteriophage infection and lysogeny.

This study introduces a novel proline-catalyzed oxidation system employing hydrogen peroxide to synthesize quinones from a diverse range of substrates, including hydroquinones, phenols, resorcinols, aldehydes, and polycyclic aromatics. This approach is well-aligned with green chemistry principles, offering a more environmentally benign approach than earlier studies. Notably, this approach uses cost-effective reagents, proline as a readily available organocatalyst, reduced equivalents of HO, metal-free conditions, and notably short reaction times to achieve moderate-to-high yields.

In this narrative review, we assess the pathophysiology of severe adverse events that presented after vaccination with DNA and mRNA vaccines against COVID-19. The focus is on the perspective of an undersulfated and degraded glycocalyx, considering its impact on immunomodulation, inflammatory responses, coagulation and oxidative stress. The paper explores various factors that lead to glutathione and inorganic sulfate depletion and their subsequent effect on glycocalyx sulfation and other metabolites, including hormones.

Aboriginal Australians experience a high prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), with high rates of potentially preventable hospitalisations. However, little is known about Aboriginal peoples' experiences of living with COPD and how they navigate health care systems. This study used thematic analysis and Aboriginal methodology to explore Aboriginal peoples' lived experiences of COPD, their health care journey from receiving a diagnosis of COPD to the clinical management, and the impact of COPD on their daily lives.

Developmental stuttering (DS) is a neurodevelopmental speech-motor disorder characterized by symptoms such as blocks, repetitions, and prolongations. Persistent DS often has a significant negative impact on quality of life, and interventions for it have limited efficacy. Herein, we briefly review existing research on the neurophysiological underpinnings of DS -specifically, brain metabolic and default mode/social-cognitive networks (DMN/SCN) anomalies- arguing that psychedelic compounds might be considered and investigated (e.

Purpose: Tobacco smoking is the major risk factor for COPD, and it is common for other risk factors in never-smokers to be overlooked. We examined the prevalence of COPD among never-smokers in Australia and identified associated risk factors.

Methods: We used data from the Australia Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease (BOLD) study, a cross-section of people aged ≥40 years from six sites.

Background: Breathlessness is a common symptom related to a significant health burden. However, the association of breathlessness with clinical characteristics, especially objective pulmonary test results is scarce. We aimed to identify the characteristics independently associated with breathlessness in Australian adults.

Purpose: Population data on the burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are often based on patient-reported diagnoses of COPD, emphysema or chronic bronchitis, without spirometry. We aimed to investigate the relationship between health burden, quality of life and severity of airway obstruction in Australian adults aged ≥40 years.

Methods: We used data from the BOLD Australia study, which included randomly selected adults aged ≥40 years from six study sites to reflect the sociodemographic and geographic diversity of the Australian population (n = 3522).

Childhood-onset fluency disorder, commonly referred to as stuttering, affects over 70 million adults worldwide. While stuttering predominantly initiates during childhood and is more prevalent in males, it presents consistent symptoms during conversational speech. Despite these common clinical manifestations, evidence suggests that stuttering, may arise from different etiologies, emphasizing the need for personalized therapy approaches.

Background: Diagnosis of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the community is variable, often without spirometry. Some studies report that adults with both diagnostic labels (asthma+COPD) have worse health outcomes than those with asthma or COPD only, but data for Australian adults are limited. We investigated the relationship between clinical characteristics and self-reported diagnoses of asthma, COPD and both.

Virulent Enterobacterale strains expressing serine and metallo-β-lactamases (MBL) genes have emerged responsible for conferring resistance to hard-to-treat infectious diseases. One strategy that exists is to develop β-lactamase inhibitors to counter this resistance. Currently, serine β-lactamase inhibitors (SBLIs) are in therapeutic use.

Background: Despite the high incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Aboriginal communities in Australia, Aboriginal Health Workers (AHWs) have limited knowledge about effective management.

Aim: To evaluate an online education program, co-designed with AHWs and exercise physiologists (EPs) or physiotherapists (PTs), to increase knowledge about COPD and its management.

Methods: AHWs and EPs from four Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) were recruited.

β-lactams are the most prescribed class of antibiotics due to their potent, broad-spectrum antimicrobial activities. However, alarming rates of antimicrobial resistance now threaten the clinical relevance of these drugs, especially for the carbapenem-resistant expressing metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs). Antimicrobial agents that specifically target these enzymes to restore the efficacy of last resort β-lactam drugs, that is, carbapenems, are therefore desperately needed.

Introduction: In February 2018 the Remote Medical Practitioner (RMP)-led telehealth model for providing both primary care advice and aeromedical retrievals in Central Australia was replaced by the Medical Retrieval and Consultation Centre (MRaCC) and Remote Outreach Consultation Centre (ROCC). In this new model, specialists with advanced critical care skills provide telehealth consultations for emergencies 24/7 and afterhours primary care advice (MRaCC) while RMPs (general practitioners) provide primary care telehealth advice in business hours via the separate ROCC.

Objective: To evaluate changes in clinicians' perceptions of efficiency and timeliness of the new (MRaCC) and (ROCC) model in Central Australia.

Physicians advocating the frequent use of microneedling for skin care are advocating for a potentially dangerous procedure, especially when coupled with the topical application of bone marrow stem cell derived cytokines. Not only are the physicians who advocate for frequent microneedling as a skin care procedure not Board Certified in Dermatology (FAAD or FAOCD), they are not dermatologist; rather they are family practitioners. Further, they don't have M.

Article Synopsis
  • Smoking cessation is difficult for many due to addiction, and recent research has been focusing on mobile health technologies, especially smartwatches, to assist in quitting.
  • Traditional methods have mainly detected smoking behaviors but may not effectively help those trying to stop, as they often react too late after a relapse.
  • This new study presents a system that uses both a smartwatch and a finger sensor to detect pre-smoking activities (like grabbing a cigarette), achieving an 80.6% accuracy in predicting these behaviors, significantly better than the 47.0% accuracy of just the smartwatch alone.

Introduction: Wounds of the skin induced by irradiation involve a disruption of skin homeostasis and an increase in inflammation. Physiological renormalization treatment strategies using the molecules released from stem cells that restore proteostasis and regulate the immune system and reduce inflammation may be effective in treating skin conditions. Previous studies of severe radiation dermatitis found a significant reduction in symptoms using a combination product of the secretome from adipose mesenchymal stem cells and dermal fibroblasts, but mild radiation dermatitis has yet to be studied using this product.

Current vaccines for Covid-19 have failed to prevent the disease from spreading and have allowed more transmissible and virulent variants to form through mutations and recombinations as they replicate during the massive spread of the virions. Here I suggest using a "systems therapeutic" vaccine and dosing strategy to induce "physiological renormalization" to induce mimicry in the innate and adaptive immune systems in the respiratory tracts and sera, similar to that when the body encounters the natural infectious agent.

Cannabinoid and glutamatergic signaling systems in the human retina coexist and greatly influence one another. Under glaucomatous conditions, excess levels of glutamate accrete in the retinal ganglion cell (RGC) layer. The present study tests the putative neuroprotective effect mediated by cannabinoids at the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

With what has become increasingly common among nearly all medical specialties, the number of patients who have various comorbid diseases both psychiatrically and mentally challenges the field of psychiatry. As a result, it is not uncommon for physicians to be imposed with treatment decisions regarding polypharmacy, the use of multiple medications to treat different diseases, or even the same illness several times. In recent years, the concept of polypharmacy has been known to have a negative undertone, implying that its use is inappropriate or causes more harm than the potential benefit.
