Background: Inherited retinal diseases form a rare, highly heterogeneous group of genetic disorders characterized by retinal degeneration. It is considered one of the leading causes of debilitating visual loss and blindness in children and young adults. Despite this few population-based data studies on prevalence of inherited retinal diseases exist.

Methods: All retrievable data of significance from 432 normal right paediatric eyes and 48 eyes of paediatric KC and forme fruste KC (FFKC), imaged by use of a rotating Scheimpflug camera (Oculyzer II, Pentacam HR) between December 2013 and October 2018 at Watany Eye Hospitals, Cairo, Egypt, including Scheimpflug images data, were collected.

Background: To evaluate the normative values of corneal endothelial cell parameters within a group of healthy young Egyptian adults using specular microscopy and to examine any correlations between endothelial parameters and refractive or biometric parameters.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, specular microscopy was used to study the right eyes of 150 healthy young volunteers and evaluated endothelial cell parameters, including cellular density, hexagonality (HEX), and coefficient of variation (CV) at 15 different points on the back corneal surface, which were later grouped into the central zone and either four quadrants or three annular zones. The same eyes underwent refractive and biometric assessments.
Introduction: Exfoliation syndrome is an age-related disease leading to ocular and systemic complications. We aimed to evaluate the prevalence of exfoliation syndrome (XFS) in Egypt and its association with cataract as one of its comorbidities.
Methods: In a retrospective, hospital-based study, 155,032 Egyptians aged over 40 years from all 27 Egyptian governorates were evaluated for the prevalence of XFS and cataract in the period between January 2015 and June 2020.
Purpose: To provide a normative database of several Pentacam parameters for a healthy pediatric population.
Methods: This was a retrospective study conducted at Al Watany Eye Hospitals, Cairo, Egypt. We explored the Pentacam HR database and collected the data of 432 normal right eyes of children and teenagers aged 3 to 18 years.
Objectives: Angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) is a multifaceted cytokine that functions in both angiogenesis and inflammation. A proangiogenic state has been found in adults with sickle cell disease (SCD), mainly because of elevated Ang-2 levels. We determined Ang-2 level in 40 children and adolescents with SCD compared with 40 healthy controls and assessed its relation to retinopathy as well as carotid intimamedia thickness (CIMT).

Setting: Al Watany Eye Hospital, Cairo, Egypt.
Methods: In a retrospective study, history taking, clinical examination, and rotating Scheimpflug camera scanning (by Oculyzer II equivalent to Pentacam HR) were done to 128 eyes: 82 normal, 24 forme fruste keratoconus FFKC (apparently normal cornea with evident keratoconus in the fellow eye), and 22 keratoconus (KC).
Purpose: The aim of this study was to find indices for keratoconus (KC) detection with higher sensitivity and specificity than the currently available ones with the rotating Scheimpflug imaging (Oculyzer I, Pentacam) software.
Patients And Methods: Data of 103 normal and 73 KC eyes imaged by Oculyzer I, including slit-lamp examination, refraction, Scheimpflug images, and follow-up data were collected. Logistic regression was done to find new indices with higher area under receiver operating characteristic curves using the currently available ones.
Background: Different enhancement procedures have been suggested for reduction of residual refractive errors after SMILE. The aim of this study is to evaluate an improved cap-preserving technique for enhancement after SMILE (Re-SMILE).
Methods: A retrospective case series was conducted at Eye subspecialty center, Cairo, Egypt on 9 eyes with myopia or myopic astigmatism (spherical equivalent - 8.
Purpose: To study the subconjunctival silicone oil (SCSO) parameters associated with dellen formation following microincision vitrectomy (MIV).
Patients And Methods: This was a case-control study of 20 eyes with SCSO following MIV. Ten of them suffered postoperative dellen formation.
Purpose. To evaluate accuracy of various Keratoconus (KC) screening indices, in relation to Topographic Keratoconus (TKC) grading. Setting.

Patients And Methods: A prospective comparative randomized single-center study enrolled 110 patients with bilateral congenital ptosis. One group (n=55) underwent AFLS and the second group (n=55) underwent GTS.
Purpose: This paper compares and evaluates the corneal morphological changes occurring after cataract surgery through a 2.2 mm corneal incision. We use two platforms for comparison and evaluation, transversal and torsional phacoemulsification.

Setting: National Eye Hospital, Cairo, Egypt.
Design: Randomized clinical trial.
Purpose: To find the relationship between axial length (AL) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) measurements, using partial coherence interferometry (PCI) and A-scan ultrasonography (US).
Setting: National Eye Hospital, Cairo, Egypt.
Method: Retrieving and comparing biometric data from the files of 163 consecutive patients seeking cataract extraction by PCI (IOLMaster) and US (Sonomed).
Synopsis: The aspheric, one-piece design of the Tecnis® ZCB00 intraocular lens provided higher mesopic contrast sensitivity and relatively constant refraction at different pupil sizes compared to the Sensar® AR40e.
Purpose: Comparing the impact on functional vision of the aspheric Tecnis® ZCB00 one-piece lens compared to the spherical Sensar® AR40e three-piece lens.
Setting: National Eye Hospital, Cairo, Egypt.
