Prevalence and risk factor of postoperative adhesions following repeated cesarean section: A prospective cohort study.

Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of intraperitoneal adhesions after repeated cesarean delivery and its associated personal and surgical risk factors.

Carbon monoxide has recently emerged to promote tissue regeneration, enhance the innate immune system, and have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. While the first generation Ru(II) carbonyl prodrugs (CORM-2 and CORM-3) displayed several beneficial biological effects, a search in the literature shows that little work has been done to address the drawbacks of CORM-2/-3, exploring other CO triggered methods for the next generation Ru(CO) based compounds and examining their valuable biological impact. We present a summary of most work related to Ru(II) carbon monoxide-releasing molecules, protein bioconjugation, and antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Background: Vitiligo is a common pigmentary disorder in which autoimmunity has been suggested to play an important role. Toll-like receptor (TLR) family are recognized different molecular structures expressed on immune cells and have been implicated in a number of autoimmune diseases (AIDs) such as vitiligo. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possible association between TLR4 gene polymorphisms: rs11536858, rs1927911, rs1927914 in Egyptian vitiligo patients and their clinical data, their response to therapy.

The Impact of Implementing the Egypt Pandemic Preparedness Plan for Acute Respiratory Infections in Combating the Early Stage of the COVID-19 Pandemic, February-July 2020: Viewpoint.

This article briefly describes Egypt's acute respiratory infection (ARI) epidemic preparedness and containment plan and illustrates the impact of implementation of the plan on combating the early stage of the COVID-19 epidemic in Egypt. Pillars of the plan include crisis management, enhancing surveillance systems and contact tracing, case and hospital management, raising community awareness, and quarantine and entry points. To identify the impact of the implementation of the plan on epidemic mitigation, a literature review was performed of studies published from Egypt in the early stage of the pandemic.

Dexmedetomidine as an Additive to Local Anesthesia for Decreasing Intraocular Pressure in Glaucoma Surgery: A Randomized Trial.

Background: Nowadays, the peribulbar block is used as a tool in glaucoma surgery. As a side effect, it increases intraocular pressure that raises the need for adjuvant medication to overcome this problem in the diseased eye. Dexmedetomidine has proven to decrease intraocular pressure (IOP) in the non-glaucomatous eye.

Polymorphism in vitamin D receptor and osteoprotegerin genes in Egyptian rheumatoid arthritis patients with and without osteoporosis.

1α,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 upregulates the expression of the receptor activator of nuclear factor kB ligand (RANKL), and downregulates osteoprotegerin (OPG) expression. We tested the effects of polymorphisms in the vitamin D receptor gene (VDR), and OPG gene in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and healthy controls and their relationship to bone mineral density (BMD) and development of osteoporosis. Three hundred and fifty women were evaluated, 200 women having RA and 150 healthy control.

Effect of epidural dexmedetomidine on intraoperative awareness and post-operative pain after one-lung ventilation.

Background: During combined general and regional anaesthesia, it is difficult to use autonomic signs to assess whether wakefulness is suppressed adequately. We compared the effects of a dexmedetomidine-bupivacaine mixture with plain bupivacaine for thoracic epidural anaesthesia on intraoperative awareness and analgesic benefits, when combined with superficial isoflurane anaesthesia (<0.05 maximum alveolar concentration) in patients undergoing thoracic surgery with one-lung ventilation (OLV).

Maternal plasma leptin is elevated in ewes during pregnancy.
