Article Synopsis
  • Transpedicular screws are commonly used in lumbar spine surgeries, and a study tracked their placement accuracy in 145 patients through postoperative CT scans.
  • Over 6 months, 612 screws were evaluated, revealing varying degrees of misplacement: minor in 104 patients, moderate in 34, and severe in 7, the last group requiring additional surgeries.
  • The findings suggest that CT scans are a more reliable method than X-rays for confirming screw placement, highlighting the need for timely imaging post-surgery to avoid complications from pedicle breaches.

Rare cases are shown to arise from the olfactory or optic nerve, being devoid of myelin sheath.
