The paper presents the new eco-friendly method of bleaching process of the cellulose fibre materials. Cellulose materials were bleached using hydrogen peroxide (both in aqueous solution, vapours, ozone and by the combined action of gaseous hydrogen peroxide and ozone. The method using hydrogen peroxide in aqueous solution presents the standard procedure and was used as the comparison technique.

Creosote, a mixture of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), was and is a wood impregnate of widespread use. Over the years the accumulation of creosote PAHs in soils and freshwaters has increased, causing a threat to ecosystems. The combined ozonation-biodegradation process is proposed to improve the slow and inefficient biodegradation of creosote hydrocarbons.

The research covered the process of nanofiltration of low molecular weight organic compounds in aqueous solution. The article presents the results of experiments on membrane filtration of compounds containing amino groups in the aromatic ring and comparing them with the results for compounds without amino groups. The research was carried out for several commercial polymer membranes: HL, TS40, TS80, DL from various manufacturers.

This article presents the results of studies on the degradation of ibuprofen transformation products: 1-hydroxyibuprofen (1OHIBF), 4-ethylbenzaldehyde (4EBA), 1-[4-(2-methylpropyl)phenyl]ethan-1-ol (MPPE) in water. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper where the ozonation and photodegradation (VIS and UV photolysis, degradation in HO/UV system, photosensitized oxidation) of 1OHIBF, 4EBA and MPPE are reported. The processes were performed in demineralized and natural river water.

Phenylphenol isomers (hydroxylated derivatives of biphenyl) are widely used as a preservative agents and disinfectants in many branches of industry. This work focuses on removal of phenylphenol isomers from aqueous solution using HO/UVC process. The influence of different operating variables such as pH, initial concentration of hydrogen peroxide, initial concentration of target compounds, fluence rate and presence of radical scavengers on degradation rate was investigated.

Background: In the last few decades the quality of natural water has often deteriorated as a variety of novel pollutants have contaminated rivers and lakes. Trace amounts of some man-made chemicals can be hazardous to plants, animals as well as human health as carcinogens, mutagens or endocrine disruptors. Light radiation may help in its decomposition, aided by naturally occurring colored organic compounds (humic substances) in the water.
