Article Synopsis
  • * The study aimed to analyze the PAPP-A2 gene mutations and perform clinical evaluations, including biochemical analysis of GH-IGF-1 axis parameters in patients with idiopathic short stature.
  • * Results showed no pathogenic mutations in the PAPP-A2 gene; however, free IGF-1 levels were found to correlate more closely with height than total IGF-1 levels.

Background: It is unclear whether targeted monitoring of acute adrenal insufficiency (AI) related adverse events (AE) such as sick day episodes (SDEs) and hospitalization rate in congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is associated with a change in the occurrence of these events.

Aim: Study temporal trends of AI related AE in the I-CAH Registry.

Methods: In 2022, data on the occurrence of AI-related AE in children aged <18 years with 21-hydroxylase deficiency CAH were compared to data collected in 2019.

Introduction: Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) before the introducing a newborn screening was initially diagnosed based on clinical symptoms or positive family history and thereafter confirmed hormonal profiles.

Patients' Report: We present two female newborns with atypical screening results born shortly after the introduction of neonatal screening for congenital adrenal hyperplasia in the Wielkopolska region. Female patients 1 and 2 were both born at term and discharged from neonatal departments without any suspicion of disease.

Interleukin-6 signal transducer (IL6ST) encodes the GP130 protein which transduces the proinflammatory signaling of the IL6 cytokine family through Janus kinase signal transducers and activators of transcription pathway (JAK/STAT) activation. Biallelic loss-of-function IL6ST variants cause autosomal recessive hyper-IgE syndrome or a variant of the Stuve-Wiedemann syndrome. Somatic gain-of-function IL6ST mutations, in particular, small monoallelic in-frame deletions of which the most prevalent is the IL6ST Ser187_Tyr190del, are an established cause of inflammatory hepatocellular tumors, but so far, no disease caused by such mutations present constitutively has been described.

Short stature is the main problem that paediatric endocrinologists have to grapple with. Endocrine disorders account for only 5% of patients with short stature, but this is still one of the most common causes of reports to the endocrine clinic and hospitalisation in the endocrine department. A properly functioning growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor (GH/IGF) axis is one of the most important factors in proper growth.
