We develop convergence acceleration procedures that enable a gradient descent-type iteration method to efficiently simulate Hartree-Fock equations for many particles interacting both with each other and with an external potential. Our development focuses on three aspects: (i) optimization of a parameter in the preconditioning operator; (ii) adoption of a technique that eliminates the slowest-decaying mode to the case of many equations (describing many particles); and (iii) a novel extension of the above technique that allows one to eliminate multiple modes simultaneously. We illustrate performance of the numerical method for the two-dimensional model of the first layer of helium atoms above a graphene sheet.

This synthetic method furnished 4-amino-5-pyrazolones in high yields and with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 97:3 er) at room temperature in short reaction times. Moreover, a linear-polymer-supported bifunctional thiourea, synthesized by reacting a bifunctional aromatic monomer (biphenyl) with isatin in superacidic media and further derivatization, was proven to be also an efficient heterogeneous organocatalyst for this α-amination reaction.

The two-step sequence consists of an asymmetric allylboration of readily available aldehydes using a polymer-supported chiral phosphoric acid catalyst to introduce asymmetry, followed by selective epoxidation of the resulting alkene. The process is highly stable for at least 7 h and represents a transition-metal free enantioselective approach to valuable 1-aryl-1,3-diols.

The systems studied are poly(L-lysine) (PLL) or poly(L-arginine) (PLA) with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), chosen because the surfactant (i) interacts more strongly with the latter polypeptide due to the formation of hydrogen bonds between the guanidinium group and its oxygen atoms, and (ii) induces bulk β-sheet and α-helix conformations of the respective polypeptides. View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe introduce the group-equivariant autoencoder (GE autoencoder), a deep neural network (DNN) method that locates phase boundaries by determining which symmetries of the Hamiltonian have spontaneously broken at each temperature. We use group theory to deduce which symmetries of the system remain intact in all phases, and then use this information to constrain the parameters of the GE autoencoder such that the encoder learns an order parameter invariant to these "never-broken" symmetries. This procedure produces a dramatic reduction in the number of free parameters such that the GE-autoencoder size is independent of the system size.
