Bluetongue virus (BTV) is a prevalent midge-borne pathogen that infects ruminant species worldwide. BTV infections range from asymptomatic to lethal, with mechanisms that determine the severity of infection remaining largely undefined. Although it is relatively poorly understood, the immune response to BTV infection is thought to be critical for both the propagation of disease as well as the resolution of infection.

Holometabolous insects undergo a distinct transition in their development, tightly correlated with shifting feeding patterns from larval stages and some adult phases to non-feeding phases as pupae and during other adult phases. Furthermore, the intricate life cycle of mosquitoes involves a sequence of developmental stages influenced by aquatic and terrestrial factors, demanding precise energy resource orchestration. Lipids serve multifaceted roles, encompassing energy storage, membrane structure, and participation in signal transduction and molecular recognition processes.

Human enteroids and colonoids are a critical bench-to-bedside tool for studying the epithelium in inflammatory bowel disease. The goal of the current study was to define transcriptional differences in healthy versus diseased subjects that are sustained in enteroids and colonoids, including from disease-spared tissue.

Calorie restriction can enhance the regenerative capacity of the injured intestinal epithelium. Among other metabolic changes, calorie restriction can activate the autophagy pathway. Although independent studies have attributed the regenerative benefit of calorie restriction to downregulation of mTORC1, it is not known whether autophagy itself is required for the regenerative benefit of calorie restriction.
