Article Synopsis
  • Traditional sensory evaluation booths limit ecological validity, whereas virtual reality (VR) offers an engaging alternative for sensory science.
  • In a preliminary study, 67 untrained participants rated their liking and intensity of attributes for three types of chocolate (milk, white, dark) across control booths and two VR contexts (pleasant sightseeing and live music concert).
  • Results indicated significant effects of chocolate type on preference, with milk and white chocolates favored over dark, which elicited mixed emotions depending on the VR environment; further research is needed to optimize VR settings for sensory evaluation.
