Electrical, thermal, and spectral characterizations of ferroelectric liquid crystal obtained from the precursors namely camphoric acid and heptyloxy benzoic acid abbreviated as CA + 7BAO. This mesogen exhibits two phases smectic C* and smectic G* in its exothermic run. DSC thermograms reveals the phase transition temperatures and enthalpy values of those phases.

A thermotropic hydrogen bond liquid crystal ClBAO + 6BAO is synthesized by mixing in equimolar ratios of chlorobenzoic acid and hexyloxybenzoic acid. FTIR studies conform the formation of hydrogen bond between the precursors. This mesogen exhibits nematic phase with long thermal range.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is associated with fatty liver (FL) disease. Gender differences in this association are not known.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to determine gender-wise association between FL and MS components (using Asia-Pacific guidelines 2007) in an urban south Indian cohort with normal liver function tests (LFT).

In the present study structural effects of alkoxy chain lengths and mesogen properties of hydrogen bonded (nOBASA) complexes (n=5, 6, 7) have been studied by density functional theory (DFT) calculations and Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectrum. The B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory has been adopted for all the computations. The experimental FT-IR (400-4000cm(-1)) spectrum was recorded on the solid phase of the molecule.

Epithelial cells participate in the innate immune response to pathogenic bacteria by elaborating chemokines. This study examined the effect of Vibrio cholerae and Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG on inflammatory chemokine gene expression in the HT29 human intestinal epithelial cell line. HT29 cells were exposed to V.

Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the color stability of restorative materials when exposed to a cola beverage.

Methods: Color changes in restorative materials caused by exposure to a cola beverage were studied using a split-plot experimental design. Three restorative materials (composite, resin-modified glass ionomer cement, and compomer) and 3 shades of each material under 2 surface conditions (polished and unpolished) were studied.
