Choledochocele is classified as a type III choledochal cyst according to Alonso-Lej classification. Although it is anatomically related to the common bile duct, it does not share the strong premalignant potential of the more common types of choledochal cysts. In addition, duodenal mucosa has been found lining many of these cysts.
