Background: Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is common immediately after orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT), though the expected outcomes of TR over time remain undefined. In this study, we examined the natural trajectory of TR in the first 120 days post-transplantation. We observed the clinical phenotypes of trajectories of TR after OHT, and assessed trajectory correlation with 1-year mortality and degree of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction.

Objectives: To investigate the safety and efficacy of ANG-3777, a hepatocyte growth factor mimetic, in mitigating the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.

Methods: In this double-blind placebo-controlled study (Guard Against Renal Damage [GUARD]), patients were randomized to receive intravenous ANG-3777 2 mg/kg or placebo once daily for 4 days. The COVID-19 pandemic has evolved since the publication of the initial American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) statements providing guidance to echocardiography laboratories. In light of new developments, the ASE convened a diverse, expert writing group to address the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic and to apply lessons learned to echocardiography laboratory operations in future pandemics. This statement addresses important areas specifically impacted by the current and future pandemics: (1) indications for echocardiography, (2) application of echocardiographic services in a pandemic, (3) infection/transmission mitigation strategies, (4) role of cardiac point-of-care ultrasound/critical care echocardiography, and (5) training in echocardiography.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have natural immunoregulatory functions that have been explored for medicinal use as a cell therapy with limited success. A phase Ib study was conducted to evaluate the safety and immunoregulatory mechanism of action of MSCs using a novel ex vivo product (SBI-101) to preserve cell activity in patients with severe acute kidney injury. Pharmacological data demonstrated MSC-secreted factor activity that was associated with anti-inflammatory signatures in the molecular and cellular profiling of patient blood.
