Effectiveness of a clinical decision-support tool on adherence to prescribing and practice guidelines of high-risk antidepressant medications in geriatric patients.

Introduction: TCAs and paroxetine, a SSRI, are associated with safety risks in geriatric patients because of anticholinergic properties. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the impact of a clinical decision-support tool (CDST) on adherence with medication prescribing and practice guidance to enhance patient safety.

Methods: Mental health clinical pharmacy specialists and clinical pharmacy leadership led a multidisciplinary creation and integration of a CDST within a Veterans Health Administration EHR.

Evaluation of Acute Postoperative Pain Management During an Injectable Opioid Shortage.

Background: Drug product shortages, including injectable opioids, are common and have the potential to adversely affect patient care.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of an injectable opioid shortage for hospitalized adult patients in the acute postoperative setting.

Methods: A single-center, retrospective cohort study of noncritically ill hospitalized, postoperative patients requiring opioids for acute pain management was conducted.

Treatment of Demodex-associated inflammatory skin conditions: A systematic review.

Bacterial folliculitis, rosacea, and other common skin conditions have been linked to infestation by Demodex mites (human demodicosis). Currently, there is little guidance for treatment of inflammatory conditions associated with demodicosis. Thus, the objective of this review is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of treatments utilized for Demodex infestation.
