Racial and Gender Inequalities in Food, Housing, and Healthcare Insecurity Associated with Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence.

The costs and consequences of intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual violence (SV) are well-documented; however, little is known about how experiences of violence are connected to specific economic insecurities including food, healthcare, and housing insecurity among both men and women. This study investigates (1) the prevalence of food, healthcare, and housing insecurity across gender and racial groups exposed to IPV and SV and (2) associations between exposure to past-year IPV and SV and past-year food, healthcare, and housing insecurity controlling for confounding factors. A cross-sectional survey design was used in this study.

Inverting the Selectivity of the Newman-Kwart Rearrangement via One Electron Oxidation at Room Temperature.

The discovery that the Newman-Kwart rearrangement can be performed at room temperature by action of a simple and readily available oxidant, cerium ammonium nitrate, is described. The conditions give clean conversion when using electron-rich aromatic substrates, and the reactions are often quantitative. Computational studies support a reaction mechanism where the O-thiocarbamate is first oxidized to the radical cation, followed by nucleophilic attack by the ipso carbon of the aromatic system.
