Patients with permanent atrial fibrillation in comparison with cardiovascular patients without arrhythmia were found to have higher level of serum uric acid irrespectively of background of arterial hypertension and/or ischemic heart disease. Serum uric acid was shown to be an independent predictor of chronic heart failure exacerbation in atrial fibrillation patients.
