Phytoplankton monitoring is essential for the global understanding of aquatic ecosystems. The present research studies the phytoplankton community of the Urdaibai estuary, combining microscopy and eDNA metabarcoding for the first time in the area. The main aims were to describe the phytoplankton community composition in relation to the environmental conditions of the estuary, and to compare the two methods used.

Background: Maturity-onset diabetes of the young comprises a large group of autosomal inherited gene mutations. Maturity-onset diabetes of the young subtype 5 is caused by mutations in the HNF1B gene. This gene is expressed in the early phase of embryonic development in the pancreas, kidneys, liver, and genital tract; therefore, kidney or urinary tract malformations are associated with diabetes mellitus.

The conventional processing route of TNM (Ti-Nb-Mo) alloys combines casting and Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) followed by forging and multiple heat treatments to establish optimum properties. This is a time-consuming and costly process. In this study we present an advanced alternative TNM alloy processing route combining HIP and heat treatments into a single process, which we refer to as IHT (integrated HIP heat treatment), applied to a modified TNM alloy with 1.

The placenta can be affected by environmental factors, such as exposure to cigarette smoke. This exposure in the fetal context is considered a risk factor for the development of short-term postnatal diseases, such as asthma. Asthma is an inflammatory disease characterized by predominant acquisition of CD4 T lymphocytes (TLs) of the Th2 type.

Introduction: Numerous studies have revealed the impact of umbilical cord (UC) length on fetal perfusion; abundant data implicate abnormal UC length to neurological delay and subsequent poor prognoses for fetuses and newborns. Indeed, our group previously developed theoretical approximations that contributed to formulas capable of explaining the impact of UC length on cardiac output.

Methods: We performed an observational study that measured the pulsatility index and flow velocity in umbilical arteries.

We present the data corresponding to the isolation and morphological and molecular characterization of a strain of , isolated in Mallorca Island waters and now deposited in the microalgae culture collection of the Plant Biology and Ecology Department of the University of the Basque Country under the reference Dn241Ehu. The morphological characterization was made using two different techniques of microscopy and the molecular characterization by using the 28S rDNA sequences of D1 and D2 domains. This strain has been used for a culture study in an indoor LED-lighted pilot-scale raceway to determine its production of carotenoids and fatty acids, "Long-term culture of the marine dinoflagellate microalga in an indoor LED-lighted raceway photobioreactor: Production of carotenoids and fatty acids.

Objectives: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death for women, especially ischaemic heart disease, which is still considered a man's disease. In Spain, there are various registries on ischaemic heart disease, although none are exclusively for women. The objectives of the SIRENA study were to describe the clinical profile of women with ischaemic heart disease treated in cardiology consultations, to estimate its prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors and understand its clinical management.

Peri-urban ecosystems are often managed as recreation areas or to enhance aesthetic value on the urban fringe. Scholars and land-use practitioners lack a current understanding of the supply of and the demands for these peri-urban ecosystem services (ES). In this study, we analysed the perceptions of 500 users and interest groups regarding the ES provided by the Bilbao Metropolitan Greenbelt (BMG) ecosystems in northern Spain, and we compared these perceptions to the demands for ES.

Ballast water exchange was measured for the first time in Bilbao Harbour, one of the most active of northern Spain. Between 1997 and 2006, 41,900,980.34 ballast water tn were loaded and 13,272,709 tn were discharged.

Goal, Scope And Background: In urban environments, the measured levels of ozone are the result of the interaction between emissions of precursors (mainly VOCs and NOx) and meteorological effects. In this work, time series of daily values of ozone, measured at three locations in Bilbao (Spain), have been built. Then, after removing meteorological effects from them, ozone and traffic data have been analyzed jointly.

Electrophysiological studies with simultaneous echocardiographic control and invasive measurement of intravascular pressures were carried out in a 13-year-old boy with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who was hospitalized after an episode of aborted sudden death. Ventricular stimulation did not induce ventricular tachycardia, but atrial stimulation induced atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and non-sustained ventricular tachycardia. Atrial stimulation (S1) at 200 beats.

We report the case of a 13-year-old boy who, previously in a healthy condition, was admitted to hospital with an acute ischemia of the lower half of the trunk following a slight traumatism. During the surgical operation it was noticed that the embolized material corresponded to hydatid vesicles. The patient died as a result of irreversible anaphylactic shock after the operation.
