We compared the enzymatic, coagulant, and neuromuscular activities of two variants (yellow-CDRy and white-CDRw) of venom with a sample of (CDT) venom and examined their neutralization by antivenom against CDT venom. The venoms were screened for enzymatic and coagulant activities using standard assays, and electrophoretic profiles were compared by SDS-PAGE. Neutralization was assessed by preincubating venoms with crotalic antivenom and assaying the residual activity.

Introduction: Segmental anatomical resections have been a subject of debate in recent years. There is increasing evidence that these procedures may offer some advantages in the treatment of early-stage lung cancer, with overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) similar to those seen in lobar anatomical resections.

Sequential Double-Lung Transplantation In Kartagener Syndrome: A Case Report.

Kartagener syndrome (KS) is a rare congenital disorder, characterized by sinusitis, bronchiectasis and situs inversus. Lung transplantation is an effective treatment for end-stage lung failure, but dextrocardia and differences between hilar structures and pulmonary lobes require adjustments to conventional surgical technique. We present a case of a double-lung transplant without extracorporeal oxygenation in a 48-year-old male patient with KS.

Denture biofilm increases respiratory diseases in the elderly. A mini-review.

Purpose: This mini-review discusses the clinical implication of respiratory pathogens in the biofilm on acrylic resin removable dentures in the elderly.

Methods: A search was conducted using the keywords: "dentures", " acrylic resin", "biofilm", "pneumonia", "elderly", "respiratory pathogens", and "respiratory diseases" in databases PubMed/Medline, Lilacs, SciELO and textbooks between 1999 and 2024.

Results: The elderly are more susceptible to chronic diseases and/or life-threatening infections because of senescence itself and functional and degenerative alterations.

Chemical diversity of the herbal decoction of Plectranthus ornatus and its anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities in zebrafish models.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Plectranthus ornatus is a medicinal plant originally from Africa but adapted to Brazil's climate conditions. It is recognized for its therapeutic properties, particularly for treating liver and stomach diseases, gastritis control, heartburn, and hangover. Therefore, studies on its chemical composition and pharmacological evaluation are important for the safe use of the plant.

Robinin Isolated From Solanum Asperum Exhibits Pharmacological Actions in the Central Nervous System of Adult Zebrafish (Danio rerio).

This study investigated the anxiolytic, anticonvulsant and memory preservation effects of the flavonoid robinin. The compound, administered at doses of 4, 20 and 40 mg/kg, did not show toxicity after 96 h of monitoring. In behavioural experiments with zebrafish, robinin did not cause significant changes in motor functions, but it impairs locomotor activity and demonstrates anxiolytic properties, evidenced by the increase in the time spent in the clean zone of the protector.

Background: Denture biofilm acts as a potential reservoir for respiratory pathogens, considerably increasing the risk of lung infections, specifically aspiration pneumonia, mainly 48h after hospital admission. The establishment of a straightforward, affordable, and applicable hygiene protocol in a hospital environment for the effective control of denture biofilm can be particularly useful to prevent respiratory infections or reduce the course of established lung disease.

A Case Report of Sheehan Syndrome: A Rare Cause of Hypopituitarism.

Sheehan syndrome is a rare cause of hypopituitarism characterized by pituitary gland necrosis after postpartum hemorrhage. It is a pertinent cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in developing countries with deficient obstetrical care but is frequently overlooked in developed countries where its occurrence is uncommon. We present the case of a 66-year-old female diagnosed with Sheehan syndrome more than 30 years after her last delivery complicated by postpartum hemorrhage.

Hydrogels dressings based on guar gum and chitosan: Inherent action against resistant bacteria and fast wound closure.

Hydrogels made with depolymerized guar gum, oxidized with theoretical oxidation degrees of 20, 35 and 50 %, were obtained via Schiff's base reaction with N-succinyl chitosan. The materials obtained were subjected to characterization by FT-IR, rheology, swelling, degradation, and morphology. Additionally, their gelation time categorized all three hydrogels as injectable.

The effect of progesterone concentrations during superovulation of Holstein heifers in a randomized trial.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different progesterone (P4) concentrations during the follicular growth on the intensity of estrous expression, ovarian response to the superovulatory treatment, and embryo production and quality in superovulated heifers. A total of 63 Holstein heifers were randomly assigned into 2 experimental groups: Low P4 (n = 31) and High P4 (n = 32). Animals received a pre-synchronization protocol followed by a protocol of superovulation that included the allocated P4 treatment.

The impact of anastomotic leakage after curative colon cancer resection on long-term survival: A retrospective cohort study.

Introduction: Anastomotic leakage (AL) is one of the most feared postoperative complications in colon cancer surgery due to an association with increased morbidity and mortality, although its impact on long-term survival is not consensual. In the last seven years, Kaniadakis statistics, or κ-statistics, have been applied in reactor physics to obtain generalized nuclear data, which can encompass, for instance, situations that lie outside thermal equilibrium. In this sense, numerical and analytical solutions were developed for the Doppler broadening function using the κ-statistics. However, the accuracy and robustness of the developed solutions contemplating the κ distribution can only be appropriately verified if applied inside an official nuclear data processing code to calculate neutron cross-sections.
