Aim: The trabecular bone score (TBS) is a tool for assessing bone quality and health. Current TBS algorithm corrects for body mass index (BMI), as a proxy of regional tissue thickness. The conductor-like screening model for realistic solvents was used to identify ionic liquids (ILs) to efficiently extract perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). The infinite dilution chemical potentials of PFOA in 14 000 ILs were calculated and used as descriptors of the chemical affinities between the ILs and PFOA. Trihexyltetradecylphosphonium pivalate ([P6,6,6,14][Piv]) was found to be a good IL for extracting PFOA because it gave a well-balanced combination of a strong chemical attraction for PFOA and useful physicochemical properties.

An in-flight coalescence reactive inkjet printer has been developed to facilitate the in-air collision of two reactive microdroplets. This way precise volumes of reactive inks can be mixed and subsequently deposited on the substrate to produce the desired product by polymer synthesis and patterning in a single step. In this work, we validate the printer capabilities by fabrication of a series of 3D structures using an aliphatic polyurea system (isophorone diisocyanate IPDI and poly(propylene glycol) bis(2-aminopropyl ether) PEA-400).

Measures for the improvement of acoustic conditions in the vicinity of roads include the construction of pavement structures with low-noise surfaces with optimal macrotexture and the highest possible sound absorption coefficient. Laboratory evaluation of acoustic properties of a designed asphalt mixture before its placement in the pavement is a good solution. Currently, the most popular method for the determination of the sound absorption coefficient of various construction materials under laboratory conditions is the Kundt's tube test.

This contribution reports a recapitulation of our experimental and modeling study on thermodynamic behavior of binary systems containing N-alkylisoquinolinium ionic liquids (ILs) based on bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide anion, [CniQuin][NTf2] (n = 4,6,8). In particular, we report isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) phase diagrams and molar excess enthalpies of mixing (H(E)) for binary mixtures of [C8iQuin][NTf2] IL with various organic solutes including benzene, toluene, thiophene, pyridine, and butan-1-ol. The measured VLE data represented simple homozeotropic behavior with either negative or positive deviations from ideality, depending on polarity of the solute, temperature, and mole fraction of IL.

Liquid-liquid phase equilibria (LLE) of binary mixtures containing a room-temperature ionic liquid N-hexylisoquinolinium thiocyanate, [HiQuin][SCN] with an aliphatic hydrocarbon (n-hexane, n-heptane), aromatic hydrocarbon (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, n-propylbenzene), cyclohexane, thiophene, water, and 1-alcohol (1-ethanol, 1-butanol, 1-hexanol, 1-octanol, 1-decanol) have been determined using a dynamic method from room temperature to the boiling-point of the solvent at ambient pressure. N-hexylisoquinolinium thiocyanate, [HiQuin][SCN] has been synthesized from N-hexyl-isoquinolinium bromide as a substrate. Specific basic characterization of the new compound including NMR spectra, elementary analysis, and water content have been done.

Isoquinolinium ionic liquid (IL) has been synthesized from N-hexylisoquinolinium bromide as a substrate. Specific basic characterization of the synthesized compound is included, which includes NMR spectra, elementary analysis, and water content. The basic thermal properties of the pure IL, that is, melting and solid-solid transition temperatures, as well as the enthalpy of fusion, or solid-solid transition have been measured using a differential scanning microcalorimetry technique.
