Numerous studies have shown that the extract of this plant, due to its wealth of active substances, can induce anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, immunomodulatory, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, anti-diabetic, adaptogenic, anti-arthritic, anti-stress, and antimicrobial effects. This review examines the impact of Ashwagandha extract on the vascular endothelium, inflammation, lipid metabolism, and cardiovascular outcomes.

SKA3 Expression as a Prognostic Factor for Patients with Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma.

The spindle and kinetochore-associated complex subunit 3 (SKA3) is a protein essential for proper chromosome segregation during mitosis and thus responsible for maintaining genome stability. Although its involvement in the pathogenesis of various cancer types has been reported, the potential clinicopathological significance of SKA3 in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has not been fully elucidated. Therefore, this study aimed to assess clinicopathological associations and prognostic value of SKA3 in PDAC.

An unusual case of a tuberculous granuloma of the liver presenting thirteen years after intravesical BCG - therapy for bladder cancer.

The authors present the case of a female patient with a tumor of segment VII of the liver, which was postoperatively identified as a tuberculous granuloma. The patient was admitted for elective surgery for a liver tumor, which had been diagnosed a few months before. Computed tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance were performed, based on which focal nodular hyperplasia was suspected.

Purpose: Pregnancy and time period right after labour are connected with some dangerous states, such as: pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), which afflict 6-10 % of pregnant women and mood disorders where postpartum depression occurs among 10-15 % of women after labour and so-called baby blues afflicts around 43 % of them. Scientists tried to link those diseases which afflicts thousands of women per year, and the linking factor appears to be methyldopa which is the first choice treatment of PIH. Recent study showed that 778 % of pregnant women treated with methyldopa suffered to postpartum depression.

Resveratrol's Impact on Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells Hyporeactivity: The Role of Rho-Kinase Inhibition.

Resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene) is a chemical compound belonging to the group of polyphenols and flavonoids. The aim of the present study was to determine the influence of resveratrol application along with certain modulating factors, such as 8Br-cGMP-activator of cGMP-dependent protein kinases, HA-1077-Rho-kinase inhibitor, and Bay K8644-calcium channel agonist, on VMSCs constriction triggered by phenylephrine. Resveratrol at a dose of 10 mg/kg/24 h administered for 4 weeks reduced the reactivity of the arteries to the pressure action of catecholamines.

Long-term results of simultaneous and delayed liver resections of synchronous colorectal cancer liver metastases.

Background: Complete resection is the only potential curative treatment of synchronous colorectal liver metastases. Although simultaneous liver and colon resections became an accepted procedure at specialized centres for selected patients, there is still little data about the long-term results of simultaneous operative procedures compared with those of delayed operations. In this retrospective study, the long-term survival rates of the patients who underwent simultaneous or delayed resections were presented.

A rare case of isolated pancreatic tuberculosis in a 70-year-old patient - a case report.

We report a case of rare solitary pancreatic tuberculoma. 70 years old woman admitted to hospital in order to conduct diagnostics of a tumor located in the head of the pancreas. All symptoms pointed at pancreatic cancer, but histopathological examinations were inconclusive.

Purpose: Computed tomography remains the first-choice modality for assessment of colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM). Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) is a relatively new technique that is becoming increasingly available. One of the advantages of DECT is the ability to maximise iodine detection.

Noninvasive evaluation of renal tissue oxygenation with blood oxygen level-dependent magnetic resonance imaging early after transplantation has a limited predictive value for the delayed graft function.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of renal oxygenation assessment using blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the early period after kidney transplantation and to estimate its prognostic value for delayed graft function.

Material And Methods: Examinations were performed in 50 subjects: 40 patients within a week after the kidney transplantation and 10 healthy controls, using T2*-weighted sequence. Measurements in transplant patients were correlated to basic laboratory parameters in the early period after transplantation and at follow-up.

Sitagliptin is a member of a class of drugs that inhibit dipeptidyl peptidase (DPP-4). Purpose: Metalloproteinases are a key component of the pathogenesis of abdominal hernias. Obesity is considered a risk factor in herniogenesis and hernia recurrence. The aim of this study was to evaluate the serum concentrations of metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), MMP-9, MMP-13, and adiponectin in morbidly obese and non-overweight controls.

Surgical treatment of recurrent urachal carcinoma with liver metastasis: a case report and literature review.

Background: Urachal carcinoma is a rare malignancy with poor prognosis due to late presentation of the disease and its aggressiveness. Surgery remains the mainstay of therapy even in cases of disease recurrence. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of salvage surgery in the case of urachal carcinoma with liver metastasis.
