Coordinated cell polarization in developing tissues is a recurrent theme in multicellular organisms. In plants, a directional distribution of the plant hormone auxin is at the core of many developmental programs. A feedback regulation of auxin on the polarized localization of PIN auxin transporters in individual cells has been proposed as a self-organizing mechanism for coordinated tissue polarization, but the molecular mechanisms linking auxin signalling to PIN-dependent auxin transport remain unknown.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how endogenous elicitor peptides (AtPeps) in Arabidopsis thaliana activate immune responses by binding to specific receptors (PEPR1 and PEPR2) on the plant cell membrane after damage.
  • Using live-cell imaging, it was found that AtPep1 interacts with these receptors and gets internalized, but this process doesn't rely on traditional endosomal pathways.
  • The research highlights the importance of clathrin-mediated endocytosis in the internalization of AtPep1 and its receptors, which is crucial for triggering defensive responses in plants.
