NK3 homeobox 1 (NKX3-1) is widely accepted as a highly sensitive and specific marker for prostatic adenocarcinoma. Prompted by published transcriptome data showing upregulation of NKX3-1 mRNA expression in EWSR1-NFATC2 sarcoma, we explored the utility of NKX3-1 immunohistochemistry in sarcoma diagnosis. Food can harbor a variety of microorganisms including spoilage and pathogenic bacteria. Many bacterial processes, including production of degrading enzymes, virulence factors, and biofilm formation are known to depend on cell density through a process called quorum sensing (QS), in which cells communicate by synthesizing, detecting and reacting to small diffusible signaling molecules - autoinducers (AI). The disruption of QS could decisively contribute to control the expression of many harmful bacterial phenotypes.

Metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes or obesity, are the consequence of the disruption of the organism's metabolic pathways. Ultrasonication is known to induce cavitation and can thus accelerate extraction, dissolution, digestion, and other processes, while the intense mixing caused by the propagation of ultrasound waves enhances analyte transfer to the extraction medium. Consequently, ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) is viewed as a simple procedure well suited for the extraction and subsequent determination of trace elements in food. Herein, we use different techniques to characterize several processes involved in probe- and bath-based UAE, apply them to the determination of trace metals (Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in globe artichoke leaves and soybean seeds, and closely monitor the extraction rates of selected analytes.
