Background: Self-care is the primary means of caring for a chronic condition. Therefore, it is necessary to assess it by using a good validity and reliability instrument. The Self-Care of Chronic Illness Inventory (SC-CII) is a generic instrument developed to measure self-care processes behaviors using three separate scales in patients with chronic illness.

Objectives: To identify subgroups of psychoneurological symptoms (PNS) and their relationship to different clinical variables in a sample of women with breast cáncer (BC) with different type of treatment, and the possible influence of these on quality of life (QoL), using a factorial principal components analysis.

Data Sources: Observational, cross-sectional, non-probability study (2017-2021) at Badajoz University Hospital (Spain). A total of 239 women with BC receiving treatment were included.

Background: Chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment (CRCI), or “chemobrain,” isdefined as a phenomenon of cognitive deficits in cancer patients after chemotherapy and is characterized by deficits in areas of cognition, including memory, attention, speed of processing, and executive function, which seriously affect quality of life. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of CRCI in breast cancer (BC) patients in chemotherapy treatment (CT+) or not (CT−) and to analyze their relationship with detectable objective changes in cerebral activity during the execution of a phonological and semantic verbal fluency task (PVF and SVF). Methods: An observational, cross-sectional study was carried out at Badajoz University Hospital (Spain).

Breast cancer (BC) is a major public health problem internationally. Although illness survival rates have improved, patients usually suffer multiple symptoms, both physical and psychological, which can affect their quality of life (QoL). The main aim of this study was to evaluate depressive symptoms, anxiety and the QoL of people with BC.

Background: Shift working is associated with a profound desynchronization of circadian rhythm and in particular, night-shift work disrupts normal circadian physiology. Sleep deprivation affects the functioning of certain brain areas and thus impairs cognitive performance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the night shift on cognitive performance and cerebral oxygenation/haemodynamics.

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) caregivers resilience involves the interaction between different risk and protective factors. Context of care, objective stressors, perceived stressors caregiver assessment, mediators factors and consequences of care were associated with resilience. We have developed a more integrated and operational conceptual model of resilience and care than previous models in our sociocultural environment.

Monoclonal antibodies constitute important and useful tools in clinical practice and biotechnology for diagnosing and treating infectious, inflammatory, immunological and neoplastic diseases. This article reviews evidence on the different acute adverse effects of monoclonal antibodies, specifically infusion-related reactions (IRRs), and on the measures that should be taken before and during crises. A literature search using key terms relating to IRRs produced by monoclonal antibodies was undertaken to generate a comprehensive narrative review of the information available.

Background: The use of bibliometric indicators (impact factor [IF], impact index, h-index, etc.) is now believed to be a fundamental measure of the quality of scientific research output. In this context, the presence of scientific nursing journals in international databases and the factors influencing their impact ratings is being widely analyzed.

Aim: To analyze the changes in the prescribing pattern of antipsychotic drugs in primary care in Extremadura (Spain) from 1990 to 2005, and the potential association with schizophrenia hospitalization rate.

Methods: Data from 1990-2005 about the prescribing of antipsychotic drugs was drawn from all community pharmacy sales figures reimbursed by the Health System of Extremadura. Drug consumption figures were expressed as the number of defined daily doses per 1,000 inhabitants and per day of treatment (DDD/1,000/day).

Background: An involvement of serotonin receptor 2A (5-HT2A) in the aetiology of schizophrenia has been hypothesised. The 5-HT2A receptor also appears to be an important site of action of atypical antipsychotic drugs. Indeed, association between schizophrenia and the T102C silent polymorphism of the 5-HTR2A gene has been reported.

There is growing consensus on the potential use of pharmacogenetics in clinical practice, and hopes have been expressed for application to the improvement of global health. However, two major challenges may lead to widening the "biotechnological gap" between the developing and the industrial world;first the unaffordability of some current technologies for poorer countries, and second the necessity of analyzing all described alleles for every clinical case due to the inability to predict the ethnic group of a given patient. Because of its role in the metabolism of a number of drugs, cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) is an excellent candidate for use in the optimization of drug therapy.

The drug-metabolizing cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme CYP2D6 is involved in the metabolism of several clinically important drugs. So far more than 50 different CYP2D6 allelic variants have been described, and thus there is an increased need for routine high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) methods for the evaluation of the functional implication of CYP2D6 polymorphism. Debrisoquine is metabolized to 4-hydroxydebrisoquine by CYP2D6, and therefore it has been used widely to determine the hydroxylation capacity of the enzyme.

Diclofenac has been used for the evaluation of CYP2C9 activity in vitro as well as in vivo with varying results. The present study was aimed at evaluating the reproducibility of the urinary diclofenac/4'-OH diclofenac ratio among different CYP2C9 genotypes in healthy volunteers. The study of CYP2C9 genotypes in the family of a CYP2C9*3/*3 subject is also reported.

In humans, diclofenac is metabolised to 4'-hydroxy (OH), 3'-OH and 5-OH metabolites. The polymorphic CYP2C9 is involved in the metabolism of diclofenac to 4'-OH diclofenac and 3'-OH diclofenac. The aim of the present study was to develop a high-performance liquid chromatographic method to simultaneously measure diclofenac and its metabolites in urine, suitable for metabolic studies.
