Redefining superior escape of the humeral head: A radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging study.

Background: The underlying shoulder pathology in radiographic superior escape of the humeral head and association between acromiohumeral interval (AHI) on radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are poorly understood.

Methods: A retrospective review of shoulder radiographs and MRI scans was undertaken. AHI was measured using both modalities.

Cross-species comparisons between pigs and mice reveal conserved sex-specific intraspinal inflammatory responses after spinal cord injury.

Objective: Therapeutic translation is challenging in spinal cord injury (SCI) and large animal models with high clinical relevance may accelerate therapeutic development. Pigs have important anatomical and physiological similarities to humans. Intraspinal inflammation mediates SCI pathophysiology.

Burnout in New Zealand resident doctors: a cross-sectional study of prevalence and risk factors.

Objective: Burnout syndrome, characterised by emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and decreased personal accomplishment, is well documented in the medical workforce. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of burnout in New Zealand resident doctors (doctors who have yet to complete their specialty training).

Design: Cross-sectional survey study of resident doctors in New Zealand.

Advanced Surgical Training Models for Wrist Surgery.

Globally, surgical exposure for the trainee has become challenging due to changes in shift patterns, increasing medicolegal issues and the recognition of burnout. Simulation models are a crucial adjunct for the development of arthroscopic skills and open procedures. Advanced anatomically precise 3D-printed wrist models are used in our workshops.

The Natural History of Non-operatively Treated Traumatic Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Tears: A Systematic Review.

 Operative treatment of triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) tears has been well researched; however, data regarding nonoperative management is mixed and scarce. Our review aimed to utilize available data to formulate conclusions regarding treatment algorithms for this heterogeneous injury group.  A thorough literature review was performed in Medline (OVID), Embase, Cochrane Library, and PubMed databases with search terms including "triangular fibrocartilage complex" and variations on the full term including "triangular fibrocartilage" or "TFCC," alongside "non-operative" and "conservative.

Balancing Patients' Eating Habits with Planetary Health-Pilot Study to Decrease Food Waste with Vegetarian Lunches using a Quality Improvement Approach.

Background: Patient health is greatly impacted by increased likelihood of malnutrition if food is not consumed. Food waste also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and may be possibly reduced by offering vegetarian food options. Therefore, a Plan-Do-Study-Act intervention of "Vegetarian Week" was conducted in an urban geriatric rehabilitation unit.

How does climate change impact people who use alcohol and other drugs? A scoping review of peer reviewed literature.

Background: The world has experienced devastating extreme weather events, alongside slow-onset processes including increasing temperature means, that scientists agree are manifestations of human-induced climate change. Even with radical action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, effects of climate change will become increasingly severe.

Objectives: The aim of this review was to classify impacts of climate change for people who use alcohol and other drugs (AoD), as reflected in peer reviewed literature.

Expectations for gynaecological cancer nursing guidance development: A qualitative exploration: Part 1 - Creating foundational support.

Purpose: Nurses are acknowledged as essential in the delivery of best practice gynaecological cancer care however previous studies have identified challenges in these nursing roles. Recommendations include the development of nursing guidance focused on supporting people with a gynaecological cancer. This study aimed to explore perceptions and expectations for the development of a gynaecological cancer nursing guidance resource in Australia and investigate preferred design and content inclusion.

Relativistic Electrons from Vacuum Laser Acceleration Using Tightly Focused Radially Polarized Beams.

We generate a tabletop pulsed relativistic electron beam at 100 Hz repetition rate from vacuum laser acceleration by tightly focusing a radially polarized beam into a low-density gas. We demonstrate that strong longitudinal electric fields at the focus can accelerate electrons up to 1.43 MeV by using only 98 GW of peak laser power.

Abrasive-free chemical-mechanical planarization (CMP) of gold for thin film nano-patterning.

Despite high demand for gold film nanostructuring, patterning gold at the nanoscale still presents considerable challenges for current foundry-compatible processes. Here, we present a method based on abrasive-free chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) to planarize nanostructured gold surfaces with high selectivity against SiO. The method is efficient in a damascene process and industry-compatible.

Young people returning to alcohol and other drug services as incremental treatment.

Young people who attend intensive alcohol and other drug (AoD) treatment commonly do so more than once. This paper aims to understand precipitators, enablers and barriers to young people's re-engagement in programs. Data come from a longitudinal qualitative study involving three waves of interviews with Australian young people recruited while attending intensive AoD programs (n = 38 at wave 1).

Mixing Rules for Left-Handed Disordered Metamaterials: Effective-Medium and Dispersion Properties.

Left-handed materials are known to exhibit exotic properties in controlling electromagnetic fields, with direct applications in negative reflection and refraction, conformal optical mapping, and electromagnetic cloaking. While typical left-handed materials are constructed periodic metal-dielectric structures, the same effect can be obtained in composite guest-host systems with no periodicity or structural order. Such systems are typically described by the effective-medium approach, in which the components of the electric permittivity tensor are determined as a function of individual material properties and doping concentration.

 Displaced distal radius fractures are prone to redisplacement after manipulation. This can result in the need for delayed surgery. Several criteria have been studied to predict the likelihood of redisplacement.

Human Cytomegalovirus Infection and Neurocognitive and Neuropsychiatric Health.

A common infection, human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) has been associated with a variety of human diseases, including cardiovascular disease and possibly certain cancers. HCMV has also been associated with cognitive, psychiatric, and neurological conditions. Children with congenital or early-life HCMV are at risk for microcephaly, cerebral palsy, and sensorineural hearing loss, although in many cases sensorineural loss may resolve.

A Novel Unsupervised Machine Learning Approach to Assess Postural Dynamics in Euthymic Bipolar Disorder.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a mood disorder with different phases alternating between euthymia, manic or hypomanic episodes, and depressive episodes. While motor abnormalities are commonly seen during depressive or manic episodes, not much attention has been paid to postural abnormalities during periods of euthymia and their association with illness burden. We collected 24-hour posture data in 32 euthymic participants diagnosed with BD using a shirt-based wearable.

Discovery and preclinical development of a therapeutically active nanobody-based chimeric antigen receptor targeting human CD22.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies targeting B cell-restricted antigens CD19, CD20, or CD22 can produce potent clinical responses for some B cell malignancies, but relapse remains common. Camelid single-domain antibodies (sdAbs or nanobodies) are smaller, simpler, and easier to recombine than single-chain variable fragments (scFvs) used in most CARs, but fewer sdAb-CARs have been reported. Thus, we sought to identify a therapeutically active sdAb-CAR targeting human CD22.

Discussion of an approach to starting a JEDI inventory in a College of Pharmacy.

Quality Improvement Methods: An extensive literature review was undertaken to define the terms included in JEDI and to craft a listing of ideal inventory components.

Results Of Cqi Inquiry: The terms used in JEDI were defined and a list of 148 ideal inventory components was created.

Drinking alcohol at home feels different from drinking in public places: a qualitative study of midlife Australians.

This paper shows how drinking in one's own home affords different affective experiences to drinking in public settings such as bars, pubs and restaurants. A thematic analysis of interviews with 40 Australians aged 30-65 identified three main variations in alcohol-associated feelings, sensations and urges. Alcohol was used at home to decelerate, but in contrast, people were enlivened when drinking in public venues.

Alcohol's contribution to climate change and other environmental degradation: a call for research.

Climate change is the single biggest health threat facing humanity. The production, distribution and consumption of many fast-moving consumer goods contribute substantially to climate change, principally through releasing greenhouse gas emissions. Here we consider just some of the ways that alcohol-already a key contributor to an array of health, social and economic burdens-exacerbates environmental harms and climate change.

Educating students about volatile substance use in Australian schools: Is the current approach evidence-based, and how should we do it?

Australian national, state and territory school-based drug education policies advise that volatile substance use (VSU) should be excluded from general drug education curriculum for fear of alerting young people to the intoxicating properties of substances such as petrol, sprays and glues. We review evidence from the United States and United Kingdom on the effects of including volatile substances in school-based drug education, to argue that these policies are due for reconsideration. Nitrous oxide and nitrites are classified as volatile substances along with solvents such as those listed above, although their patterns of use, effects and harms are different.

A Wireless Wearable Patch for Remote Monitoring of Respiratory and Cardiac Rhythm in Children.

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is an innovative strategy to promote health and improve patient management and care. Recent advances in healthcare technologies have seen the emergence of wearable sensors allowing longitudinal physiological measurements in any environment. This paper introduces a wireless wearable patch 'Leo' for continuous remote monitoring of physiological data at home and healthcare settings.

The experiences of a regional Aboriginal community accessing primary health care during times of crisis.

Introduction: The importance of primary health care (PHC) to Aboriginal Australians is widely acknowledged, as is the underservicing of the Aboriginal Australian population. Aboriginal People continue to face significant obstacles when accessing and using health care services.

Objective: This study identifies environmental factors (beyond personal and service delivery) that functioned as barriers and enablers to Aboriginal Australians' experiences accessing PHC during crises and recommends approaches during future events.

Classification system for partial distal biceps tendon tears: a descriptive 3-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging study of tear morphology.

Background: There is minimal literature on the morphology of partial distal biceps tendon (DBT) tears. We sought to investigate tear morphology by retrospectively reviewing 3-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (3T MRI) scans of elbows with partial DBT tears and to propose a basic classification system.

Methods: 3T MRI scans of elbows with partial DBT tears were retrospectively reviewed by two experienced observers.
