We explore the photovoltaic properties of a novel homojunction solar cell based on NNO(p)/NNO(n) perovskite by employing a combination of material synthesis, characterization and density functional theory calculations that are novel ideas compared to those previously reported in the literature. The band structure reveals that NaNbO introduces a n-type semiconductor. Moreover, using DFT calculation, we created n-NNO by a simple substitution in the O site by 4.

This article explores the impact of co-doping BaTiO ceramics with Ca and Y using solid-state reactions to improve its dielectric constant and decrease losses. The oxide BCTYO (BaCaTiYO) exhibits a tetragonal crystal structure, characterized by a space group of 4. By examining the behavior of the doped BaTiO sample and performing simulations, researchers can better understand the underlying mechanisms and optimize material properties for specific applications.

In the present work, we synthesized the perovskite BaErCaTiSnO compound (BECTSO) by a solid-state reaction and sintering at 1200 °C. The effects of doping on the structural, electrical, dielectric, and ferroelectric characteristics of the material are examined in this work. X-ray powder diffraction analysis shows that BECTSO crystallizes in a tetragonal structure with space group 4.

In the present research study, the structural, optical, magnetic, electrical and dielectrical properties of the spinel ferrite LiMgFeO, synthesized using a sol-gel auto-combustion method were studied. X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Raman spectroscopy revealed that this sample crystallizes in a cubic spinel structure with space group 3̄. Moreover, the optical investigation by UV-visible spectroscopy has revealed that the band gap for our sample is ( = 2.

Background: Necrotizing soft tissue infections (NSTIs) are rare life-threatening bacterial infections. Few data are available regarding neutropenic patients with NSTIs. Our objectives were to describe the characteristics and management of neutropenic patients with NSTIs in intensive care units (ICUs).

Invasive mechanical ventilation in onco-hematology patients has become relatively routine, and is now part and parcel of their care pathway. Nevertheless, specific complications and subsequent therapeutic possibilities require discussion. To a greater extent than with regard to other patient populations, cooperation between specialist and ICU physician is mandatory, the objective being to more comprehensively assess a therapeutic project before or during the period of invasive mechanical ventilation.

Article Synopsis
  • Eosinophilia, a condition marked by high eosinophil levels in the blood, can be significant in ICU patients but has been understudied regarding its causes and implications.
  • In a study of 620 ICU patients over 6 years, two groups based on the timing of eosinophilia were identified: early (within 24 hours) and delayed (after 24 hours), with varying causes and symptoms.
  • The survival rates at 60 days post-admission were similar for both groups, and specific risk factors related to mortality were identified, highlighting the need for tailored management approaches based on the timing of eosinophilia onset.

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by a bacterium called . According to the World Health Organization, tuberculosis is the leading cause of death by an infectious disease worldwide. We describe here a rare case of tuberculosis that presented as a giant nodule of the soft palate mimicking a tumor.

Coagulation disorders increase mortality rate during septic shock, but the impact of concomitant hematological malignancies remains unknown. The study assessed coagulation disorders in onco-hematological patients with thrombocytopenia (<100 G/L) admitted to ICU for septic shock. Among 146 included patients, 50 patients had lymphoma and 49 patients had acute leukemia.

Objectives: Physiotherapy leads to improvements in critically ill patients who receive mechanical ventilation. However, cancer patients have not been included in previous studies on this subject. This study explored the feasibility and safety of physiotherapy in the intensive care unit for patients with malignancy.

Purpose Of Review: Given the increased number of cancer patients admitted in the ICU and the growing importance of immunotherapy in their therapeutic arsenal, intensivists will be increasingly confronted to patients treated with immunotherapies who will present with complications, infectious and immunologic.

Recent Findings: Apart from their specific immunologic toxicities, cancer immunotherapy recipients also have specific immune dysfunction and face increased infectious risks that may lead to intensive care unit admission.

Summary: Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy is associated with profound immunosuppression and the risks of bacterial, fungal and viral infections vary according to the time since infusion.

This paper presents a correlation between experimental and theoretical approaches to study the structural, electronic, magnetic, and magnetocaloric properties of LaCaMnVO. The studied compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group. The calculated DOS using the DFT + U method proves that LaCaMnVO sample exhibits semi-metallic behavior, which is preferred in spintronic applications.

Article Synopsis
  • Immunocompromised patients, especially those who have undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), are highly susceptible to severe COVID-19, showing clinical features similar to the general population but with added complexities.* -
  • HSCT recipients often experience longer periods of SARS-CoV-2 virus shedding, leading to extended symptoms and a higher likelihood of developing mutated strains, alongside increased mortality rates influenced by factors like age and comorbidities.* -
  • More research is needed to understand how immune disorders from HSCT affect COVID-19 outcomes and to develop targeted treatments and vaccination strategies, highlighting the importance of enhanced monitoring and preventive measures for these patients.*

Background: Empirical antibiotic has been considered in severe COVID-19 although little data are available regarding concomitant infections. This study aims to assess the frequency of infections, community and hospital-acquired infections, and risk factors for infections and mortality during severe COVID-19.

Methods: Retrospective single-center study including consecutive patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for severe COVID-19.

Background: Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a frequent complication of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. Multiple mechanisms are involved in COVID-19-associated AKI, from direct viral infection and secondary inflammation to complement activation and microthrombosis. However, data are limited in critically-ill patients.

Two series containing 1,3-bis(1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)benzene as a rigid core (RC) and alkyl or perfluoroalkyl as terminal chains were synthesized and characterized. Liquid crystal properties of the synthesized compounds have been investigated by polarizing optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction techniques. Conformation effects of the synthesized products on the dipole moments were also investigated.

Polarization characterization of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, based on the state of polarization (SOP) and power measurement at the interferometer output, is presented. We study the SOP and degree of polarization (DOP) of the output light, first as a function of the light power in each arm of the interferometer for a fixed input SOP and DOP, and second as a function of the SOP's in each arm of the interferometer for a fixed input power. Stokes formalism and the Poincaré sphere are used for simultaneous representation of the SOP and DOP, as well as their evolution.
