Immigrant Older Adults' Experiences of Aging in Place and Their Neighborhoods: A Qualitative Systematic Review.

Engaging in one's neighborhood fosters independence, promotes social connectedness, improves quality of life, and increases life expectancy in older adults. There is a lack of evidence synthesis on immigrant older adults' neighborhood perceptions and experiences, essential for addressing neighborhood-level influences on aging in place. This study systematically synthesizes qualitative evidence on immigrant older adults' perceptions and experiences of their neighborhoods.

Chronic myeloid leukemia in an ulcerative colitis patient receiving azathioprine: A case report.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease usually treated by azathioprine. It is a well-established risk factor for colorectal cancers and extraintestinal malignancies. Nevertheless, the risk of myeloid leukemia in patients with UC is less known.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Muslim older immigrants in Edmonton, Alberta: A community-based participatory research project with a local mosque.

Objective: Older Muslim immigrants experience multiple vulnerabilities living in Canada. This study explores the experiences of Muslim older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic to identify ways to build community resilience as part of a community-based participatory research partnership with a mosque in Edmonton, Alberta.

Methods: Using a mixed-methods approach, check-in surveys (n = 88) followed by semi-structured interviews (n = 16) were conducted to assess the impact of COVID-19 on older adults from the mosque congregation.

Constraint-based models for dominating protein interaction networks.

The minimum dominating set (MDSet) comprises the smallest number of graph nodes, where other graph nodes are connected with at least one MDSet node. The MDSet has been successfully applied to extract proteins that control protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks and to reveal the correlation between structural analysis and biological functions. Although the PPI network contains many MDSets, the identification of multiple MDSets is an NP-complete problem, and it is difficult to determine the best MDSets, enriched with biological functions.

Wireless Sensor Networks Fault-Tolerance Based on Graph Domination with Parallel Scatter Search.

In wireless sensor/ad hoc networks, all wireless nodes frequently flood the network channel by transmitting control messages causing "broadcast storm problem". Thus, inspired by the physical backbone in wired networks, a Virtual Backbone (VB) in wireless sensor/ad hoc networks can help achieve efficient broadcasting. A well-known and well-researched approach for constructing virtual backbone is solving the Connected Dominating Set (CDS) problem.

Green options for imparting antibacterial functionality to cotton fabrics.

This study demonstrated that antibacterial cellulosic textiles can be fabricated in eco-friendly manner by grafting of monochlorotriazinyl β-cyclodextin (MCT-βCD) onto knitted and woven cotton fabrics followed by post-loading of any of the green active ingredients namely Rosemary oil, Lavender oil, Clove oil, Cinnamon oil, Aloe vera gel, Vanillin, Ag-ions, Natural Yellow 7 and Natural Red 25 dyes into the hydrophobic cavities of grafted β-CD moieties. Some of the grafted, post-loaded fabric samples were characterized by FTIR, SEM, and EDS analysis. The enhancement in the imparted antibacterial functionality as well as durability to wash are governed by type of cellulosic substrate, kind, chemistry, antibacterial activity as well as extent of inclusion and subsequent release of the hosted bioactive agent.

Sea cows (manatees, dugongs) are the only living marine mammals to feed solely on aquatic plants. Unlike whales or dolphins (Cetacea), the earliest evolutionary history of sirenians is poorly documented, and limited to a few fossils including skulls and skeletons of two genera composing the stem family of Prorastomidae (Prorastomus and Pezosiren). Surprisingly, these fossils come from the Eocene of Jamaica, while stem Hyracoidea and Proboscidea--the putative sister-groups to Sirenia--are recorded in Africa as early as the Late Paleocene.

Serum interferon-gamma is a psoriasis severity and prognostic marker.

The aim of this study was to measure serum interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) levels in participants with different types and severities of psoriasis. The study was conducted on 21 participants with psoriasis. Participants were divided into 3 groups according to disease severity: erythrodermic, severe plaque, and mild to moderate plaque psoriasis.

Bursting of sensitive polymersomes induced by curling.

Polymersomes, which are stable and robust vesicles made of block copolymer amphiphiles, are good candidates for drug carriers or micro/nanoreactors. Polymer chemistry enables almost unlimited molecular design of responsive polymersomes whose degradation upon environmental changes has been used for the slow release of active species. Here, we propose a strategy to remotely trigger instantaneous polymersome bursting.

Spectral studies on metal-ligand bonding of novel rhodanine azodye sulphadrugs.

A series of novel complexes with 5-sulphadiazineazo-3-phenyl-2-thioxo-4-thiazolidinone (H2L1) and 5-sulphamethazineazo-3-phenyl-2-thioxo-4-thiazolidinone (H2L2) and various anions were prepared. Their structures and properties were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-vis, EPR spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. The visible and EPR spectral studies indicated that the Cu(II) complexes have distorted octahedral.

[Peri-bulbar anesthesia for cataract surgery].

Ninety-five peribulbar blocks for cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation were performed by an anaesthetist over a period of 6 months. The quality of the block was assessed by the ophthalmologist and the anaesthetist. No dangerous local or systemic complications were observed.
