Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores the connection between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and osteomyelitis (OM), both of which are major health issues, using a method called Mendelian randomization.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from a gene-wide association study, utilizing 114 single-nucleotide polymorphisms linked to T2D as tools to assess how T2D affects the risk of OM.
  • - The results showed a significant causal relationship, indicating that T2D increases the risk of developing OM, with an odds ratio of 1.317, meaning those with T2D are over 31% more likely to develop OM compared to those without it.

Phylogenetic tree analysis of F4, J5-3 and M48 based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the three genera did not form distinct and independent monophyletic clusters. The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities were all higher than 99 % between each pair of the three type strains. Average nucleotide identity, digital DNA-DNA hybridization, average amino acid identity and 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between J5-3 and M48 showed that they represented the same species.

Objectives: To develop the birth weight curves of the Chinese Han (26-41 weeks of gestation) and Zhuang (28-41 weeks of gestation) singleton neonates in 11 cities of China, as well as the birth weight means of full-term neonates of 14 Chinese ethnic groups.

Methods: The live singleton neonates who were born in 11 maternal and child health care hospitals from 11 cities of China between January 2017 and December 2020 were classified according to the mother's ethnic group. Birth weight means were calculated for the full-term neonates of each ethnic group.

A novel fiber-optic distributed acoustic sensor (DAS) utilizing a LiNbO straight through waveguide phase modulator as phase generation carrier (PGC) modulation module for the detection of acoustic signal is presented. The sensitive principle and the phase demodulation method of the system based on phase-sensitive optical time domain reflectometer (Φ-OTDR) are described. This scheme solves the problems of low modulation frequency and unstable performance of piezoelectric transducer (PZT) in the traditional homodyne detection system and depends only on the pulse repetition frequency.

Objective: This study set out to probe into the effects of long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) differentiation antagonizing non-protein coding RNA (DANCR) on apoptosis and autophagy of breast cancer (BC) cells.

Methods: The expression levels of DANCR, miR-758-3p and paired box 6 (PAX6) in BC tissues and cell lines were detected. The transcription and protein levels of PAX6, apoptosis-related factors (caspase-3, caspase-9, Bax/Bcl-2), and autophagy-related factors (LC3B, Atg5, Beclin-1) in BC cells were detected.

Organometallic compounds constitute a very large group of substances that contain at least one metal-to-carbon bond in which the carbon is part of an organic group. They have played a major role in the development of the science of chemistry. These compounds are used to a large extent as catalysts (substances that increase the rate of reactions without themselves being consumed) and as intermediates in the laboratory and in industry.

The effects of different irrigation regimes on photosynthesis, plant growth, water use efficiency (WUE), and grain yield in winter wheat were examined in a common garden with rainout shelter during 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 growing seasons. The experiment consisted of two irrigation timings, jointing stage (J) and anthesis (F), and three irrigation levels, 0, 37.5 and 75 mm, which generated nine irrigation combinations, i.

Spectral data or chrominance data acquired with color measurement device is able to objectively characterize the true color information of the object. As to the measuring target that without direct contact with the measuring instrument, it needs to adopt the non-contact color measurement method to obtain the color information. The spectral irradiance theoretical analysis shows that the changes of the color illumination distance, measuring distance and exposure time have greater impact on the measurement results.

The magnonic band structures for exchange spin waves propagating in one-dimensional magnonic crystal waveguides of different material combinations are investigated using micromagnetic simulations. The waveguides are periodic arrays of alternating nanostripes of different ferromagnetic materials. Our results show that the widths and center frequencies of the bandgaps are controllable by the component materials, the stripe widths, and the orientation of the applied magnetic field.

Myotonia congenita (MC) is a genetic disease characterized by mutations in the muscle chloride channel gene (CLCN1). To date, approximately 130 different mutations on the CLCN1 gene have been identified. However, most of the studies have focused on Caucasians, and reports on CLCN1 mutations in Chinese population are rare.

The Tim (Timeless)-Tipin complex has been proposed to maintain genome stability by facilitating ATR-mediated Chk1 activation. However, as a replisome component, Tim-Tipin has also been suggested to couple DNA unwinding to synthesis, an activity expected to suppress single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) accumulation and limit ATR-Chk1 pathway engagement. We now demonstrate that Tim-Tipin depletion is sufficient to increase ssDNA accumulation at replication forks and stimulate ATR activity during otherwise unperturbed DNA replication.

A highly purified rat urinary bladder smooth muscle cell culture was obtained by a modified enzymic isolation method, and the presence of functional muscarinic as well as beta-adrenergic receptors were subsequently determined. At 7-10 days of culture, cells became elongated and spindle-shaped showing a typical "hills and valleys" form. They were stained with anti-alpha-actin and anti-myosin antibodies.
