An efficient synthesis of sulfonate esters through reductive addition of sodium sulfinates to pillar[4]arene[1]quinone has been established (15 examples). Compared to the arylsulfonylation of -quinone with sodium arylsulfinates under other acidic conditions, this work affords the hydroquinone-type 4--sulfonyl derivatives by using glyoxylic acid monohydrate as a promoter. The protocol features mild reaction conditions and high selectivity and is an alternative protocol for the -sulfonylation of pillar[4]arene[1]hydroquinone.

Plant endophytes spend at least part of their life cycle in plants without causing diseases in the hosts, being the microbial resources with rich species and diverse functions. With the advancement in sequencing technology, the microbiological study of endophytes has become increasingly intensive. Being praised for the targeted validation and low cost, Sanger sequencing has been preferred by researchers.

Phase-locking (PL) characteristics of NbO newly explored roots in complex nonlinear dynamics and exhibits great potential in periodical signal handling because of its bioinspired nature. In this study, we fabricate a Pd/Nb/Ag-NbO/Nb/Pd memristive structure and study the effects of Ag doping on the PL characteristics.

To facilitate reliable and time-efficient body composition measurements eligible for clinical practice, fully automated computed tomography segmentation methods were developed. The aim of this study was to evaluate automated segmentation by Data Analysis Facilitation Suite in an independent dataset.

This investigation presents the synthesis of butyl-decorated calix[]phenoxazines of varying sizes by kinetic control and the ring-expansion of calix[3]phenoxazine, which uniquely exhibits distinct binding affinities for fullerenes C and C. Calix[3]phenoxazine demonstrates a higher binding affinity for cationic ammonium, which can be reversibly deprotonated and protonated, enabling the reversible release and reloading of fullerenes. This system holds potential for applications in fullerene extraction and separation.

The results indicated that the pineapple-whey protein fermentation product played a positive role in restoring the intestinal flora. In this study, cefixime reduced the overall abundance of intestinal flora and decreased the relative abundance of probiotics in the gut, while also inhibiting amino acid metabolism.

However, using simple molecules with crystalline RTP to construct SA with aqueous phase RTP is hardly possible from the standpoint of forces. The reason lies in that the transition from crystal to SA involves a structure transformation from highly stable to more dynamic state, leading to increased non-radiative deactivation pathways and silent RTP signal.

The effects of common migration substances in milk packaging on digestive protease were studied. We choose the common migrants found in eight types of multi-layer composite milk packaging. Enzyme activity experiments revealed that pepsin activity decreased by approximately 18 % at 500 μg/mL of stearic acid and stearamide treatment, while trypsin activity decreased by approximately 18 % only by stearic acid treatment (500 μg/mL).

Despite its widespread applications in ophthalmology, motion artifacts remain a challenge in OCT imaging, adversely impacting image quality. While several multivolume registration algorithms have been developed to address this issue, they are often designed to cater to one specific OCT system or acquisition protocol.

Background: The aggregation and spread of misfolded amyloid structured proteins, such as tau and α-synuclein, are key pathological features associated with neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. These proteins possess a prion-like property, enabling their transmission from cell to cell leading to propagation throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems. While the mechanisms underlying their intracellular spread are still being elucidated, targeting the extracellular space has emerged as a potential therapeutic approach.

Methods: Cases of newborns born to pregnant women infected with COVID-19 who received prenatal care or treatment at the Women and Children's Hospital of the Tibet Autonomous Region and the Lhasa People's Hospital between January 2020 and December 2022 (infected group) and newborns born to healthy pregnant women (non-infected group) who were included by age, underlying disease and length of hospital stay were retrospectively collected. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 381 patients in the infected group and 314 patients in the non-infected group were included in the study.
Background: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) represents a collection of neurobehavioral and neurocognitive syndromes that are associated with a significant degree of clinical, pathological, and genetic heterogeneity. Such heterogeneity hinders the identification of effective biomarkers, preventing effective targeted recruitment of participants in clinical trials for developing potential interventions and treatments. In the present study, we aim to automatically differentiate patients with three clinical phenotypes of FTD, behavioral-variant FTD (bvFTD), semantic variant PPA (svPPA), and nonfluent variant PPA (nfvPPA), based on their structural MRI by training a deep neural network (DNN).

DS arises from trisomy of chromosome 21, but its molecular and pathological consequences are not fully understood. In this study, we compared Dp1Tyb mice, a DS model, against their wild-type (WT) littermates of both sexes to investigate the impact of DS-related genetic abnormalities on the brain phenotype.

Within the eye, excitotoxicity is thought to play a critical role in retinal ganglion cell death in glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinal ischemia, and optic nerve injury, yet how excitotoxic injury impacts different retinal layers is not well understood. Here, we investigated the longitudinal effects of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-induced excitotoxic retinal injury in a rat model using deep learning-assisted retinal layer thickness estimation.

A total of 27 children with moderate to severe anal atresia who underwent conventional PSARP at the Dongguan Children Hospital between 2007 and 2011 were included in the control group, and 34 children with moderate to severe anal atresia who underwent 3-stage LAARP between 2012 and 2016 were included in the observation group. The incidence of postoperative complications and Kelly score of anal function in the 2 groups were statistically analyzed and the efficacy of the 2 procedures compared.
