Effectiveness of 8-week Treatment with Glecaprevir/Pibrentasvir in Treatment-naïve or -experienced HCV Patients: Results from an Observational Retrospective Study in Real-life Settings (ODYSSEY).

Background And Aims: Pan-genotypic ribavirin-free oral direct-acting antivirals, including the glecaprevir/pibrentasvir combination, are recommended for the treatment of most patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. In Romania, the HCV-infected patient population receiving glecaprevir/pibrentasvir is not well characterized and data on treatment effectiveness is lacking. The ODYSSEY study aimed to provide insights into the characteristics and treatment outcomes of HCV-infected Romanian patients receiving 8-week therapy with glecaprevir/pibrentasvir.

Conducting and Magnetic Hybrid Polypyrrole/Nickel Composites and Their Application in Magnetorheology.

Hybrid organic/inorganic conducting and magnetic composites of core-shell type have been prepared by in-situ coating of nickel microparticles with polypyrrole. Three series of syntheses have been made. In the first, pyrrole was oxidised with ammonium peroxydisulfate in water in the presence of various amounts of nickel and the composites contained up to 83 wt% of this metal.

Analgesic Modalities in Patients Undergoing Open Pancreatoduodenectomy-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: This systematic review explored the efficacy of different analgesic modalities and the impact on perioperative outcome in patients undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy.

Methods: A systematic literature search was performed on PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library Database using the PRISMA framework. The primary outcome was pain scores on postoperative day one (POD1) and postoperative day two (POD2).

Rare Causes of Gastrointestinal Bleeding: Focus on Pancreatic Pathology and Visceral Artery Aneurysms.

Beside the common situations of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) managed by endoscopy, there are clinical situations when the endoscopic approach is limited by the amount of blood, the hemodynamic instability, the intermittent nature of bleeding and a proper diagnosis and treatment requires radiological interventional methods and even surgery. The pancreatic pathology is rarely considered as a possible cause for patients that presents in emergencies with GIB. The rupture of visceral artery aneurysms (VAAs), without underlying pancreatic pathology, should also be regarded in the differential diagnosis of GIB.

On the flexible needle insertion into the human liver.

In the present research, the navigation of a flexible needle into the human liver in the context of the robotic-assisted intraoperative treatment of the liver tumors, is reported. Cosserat (micropolar) elasticity is applied to describe the interaction between the needle and the human liver. The theory incorporates the local rotation of points and the couple stress (a torque per unit area) as well as the force stress (force per unit area) representing the chiral features of the human liver.

In this paper. we examined the effect of a mobile phone application on self-management and disease control in Romanian population.

Search for Electron Antineutrino Appearance in a Long-Baseline Muon Antineutrino Beam.

Electron antineutrino appearance is measured by the T2K experiment in an accelerator-produced antineutrino beam, using additional neutrino beam operation to constrain parameters of the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) mixing matrix. T2K observes 15 candidate electron antineutrino events with a background expectation of 9.3 events.

Using the Sonification for Hardly Detectable Details in Medical Images.

The inverse sonification problem is investigated in this article in order to detect hardly capturing details in a medical image. The direct problem consists in converting the image data into sound signals by a transformation which involves three steps - data, acoustics parameters and sound representations. The inverse problem is reversing back the sound signals into image data.

Inhaler technique errors in Romanian patients with asthma - a multicenter study.

Background: Non-adherence to treatment is associated with poor asthma control, increased exacerbations, decline in lung function, and decreased quality of life. M-health applications have become increasingly in the last years, but little research regarding the efficiency of the instructional videos for correct inhaler use exist. The aim of this study is to assess and improve the inhalator technique and to establish which types of errors were made more often with the help of a mobile health application.

Bone Marrow Myeloid Cells Regulate Myeloid-Biased Hematopoietic Stem Cells via a Histamine-Dependent Feedback Loop.

Myeloid-biased hematopoietic stem cells (MB-HSCs) play critical roles in recovery from injury, but little is known about how they are regulated within the bone marrow niche. Here we describe an auto-/paracrine physiologic circuit that controls quiescence of MB-HSCs and hematopoietic progenitors marked by histidine decarboxylase (Hdc). Committed Hdc myeloid cells lie in close anatomical proximity to MB-HSCs and produce histamine, which activates the H receptor on MB-HSCs to promote their quiescence and self-renewal.

Burnei's technique of femoral neck variation and valgisation by using the intramedullary rod in Osteogenesis imperfecta.

Background: Varus or valgus deviations of the femoral neck in osteogenesis imperfecta have been an ignored chapter because the classic correction procedures were applied in medical practice with unsatisfying results. Until the use of telescopic rods, coronal deviations remained unsolved and the distal configuration of the proximal femoral extremity remained uncorrected or partially corrected, which required an extensive use of the wheel chair or bed immobilization of the patient. The concomitant correction of the complex deformities, coxa vara/valga and femoral integrated configuration, have been a progress which allowed the patients to walk with or without support.

An inverse problem for the motion of blood in small vessels.

In this paper, the blood motion in vessels with small radius is analyzed. The blood is modeled as a micromorphic fluid containing deformable material particles with 12 degrees of freedom: three translations, three rotations and six stretch and shears. Seven micromorphic viscosity coefficients are introduced as a function of the initial particle concentration and are reconstructed by a genetic algorithm based on experimental data.

A clinical description of rifampicin-induced acute renal failure in 170 consecutive cases.

Rifampicin re-administration may cause immunologically mediated acute tubulo-interstitial injury. Retrospectively, 170 consecutive cases with acute renal failure (ARF) following re-treatment with rifampicin (71% males, 29% females, age 21 to 68 years) were analysed, which accounted for 12% of all ARF patients treated by two large dialysis referral centres in Romania, Timisoara and Iasi, between 1974-2001 and 1988-2001, respectively. The most frequent clinical features of rifampicin-induced ARF were: Anuria, gastro-intestinal (abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea) and "flu-like" symptoms.

Nonlinear dynamics of the left ventricle.

The cnoidal method is applied to solve the set of nonlinear dynamic equations of the left ventricle. By using the theta-function representation of the solutions and a genetic algorithm, the ventricular motion can be described as a linear superposition of cnoidal pulses and additional terms, which include nonlinear interactions among them.

[Specific features of acute renal failure in patients treated with rifampicin].

This retrospective study was performed on 92 patients diagnosed with acute renal failure (ARF) post discontinuous rifampicin treatment, admitted between 1974-2000, in Hemodialysis Center of 1st Timisoara Clinical County Hospital. The passage from the continuous treatment (7/7) to discontinuous RMP treatment triggered the ARF in 77 patients and the restart of the treatment after one year or more of treatment arrest, lead to ARF in 15 cases. The ARF symptomatology appeared in the first 12 hrs of treatment resumption in 14.

Autoantibodies to bullous pemphigoid antigen 180 induce dermal-epidermal separation in cryosections of human skin.

Bullous pemphigoid is a subepidermal autoimmune blistering disease associated with autoantibodies to the hemidesmosomal bullous pemphigoid antigens 180 and 230. Most sera from bullous pemphigoid patients recognize epitopes within the N-terminal NC16A portion of the bullous pemphigoid 180 ectodomain. Using cryosections of human skin, patients' sera were shown to generate dermal-epidermal separation when coincubated with leukocytes and complement from healthy volunteers; however, the specificity of pathogenic autoantibodies in bullous pemphigoid patients has not yet been elucidated.

[Evolution of immunity to Toxoplasma gondii in an apparently healthy human population].

In order to detect the evolution of the immune background in infections with T. gondii, investigations were carried out by the indirect immunofluorescence test in 231 apparently healthy subjects, belonging to different age-groups, from three rural localities in Moldavia. A second serologic test was performed after various intervals (6 months, 16 months, 5 years).
