The translational value of the marble burying task (MBT) is debatable. Here we performed video analysis of behaviors during the MBT to accurately capture the details of all behaviors displayed during this task. Our results show that a count of marbles buried at the end of the task may not be a good translational correlate of the 'intentional marble burying' that the task is assumed to measure.

Current monitoring programs are focused on hydrophobic chemicals detection in aquatic systems, which require the collection of high volumes of water samples at a given time. The present study documents the preliminary use of the polymer ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) as a passive sampler for the detection of a hydrophobic chemical used by salmon industries such as cypermethrin. The goal of this work was to evaluate a washing process that uses organic solutions for polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-contaminated soil, and includes an ultrasound pre-treatment step to reduce operational times and organic solvent losses. In a preliminary trial, the suitability of 10 washing solutions of different polarities were tested, from which three n-hexane-based solutions were selected for further evaluation. A second set of experiments was designed using a three-level Taguchi L27 orthogonal array to model the desorption processes of seven different PCB congeners in terms of the variability of their PCB concentration levels, polarity of the washing solution, sonication time, the ratio washing solution/soil, number of extraction steps and total washing time.

EMG recordings at rest and during swallowing of saliva and maximal voluntary clenching were performed by placing surface electrodes on the sternocleidomastoid and masseter muscles (contralateral to the habitual side of sleeping of each patient), in the following body positions: standing, seated, supine, and lateral decubitus position. Significant higher EMG activities were recorded in the sternocleidomastoid muscle in the lateral decubitus position and in the supine position (except during swallowing), whereas a significant higher EMG activity was recorded in the masseter muscle during maximal voluntary clenching in standing and seated positions.

This study was conducted in order to determine the influence of variation in the occlusal contacts on electromyographic (EMG) cervical activity in 20 patients with myogenic cranio-cervical-mandibular dysfunction. EMG recordings during maximal voluntary clenching were performed by placing surface electrodes on the left sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius muscles in the following conditions: intercuspal position; edge to edge left laterotrusive contacts (ipsilateral); edge to edge right laterotrusive contacts (contralateral); edge to edge protrusive contacts; and retrusive occlusal contacts. A significant higher EMG activity was recorded in both muscles during maximal voluntary clenching in retrusive occlusal contact position, whereas no significant differences in EMG activity were observed between intercuspal position, ipsilateral, contralateral and protrusive contact positions.
