This perspective highlights the transformative potential of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) in environmental and healthcare sectors. It discusses work that has advanced beyond technology readiness levels of >4 including applications in capture, storage, and conversion of gases to value added products. This work showcases efforts in the most salient applications of MOFs which have been performed at a great cadence, enabled by the federal government, large companies, and startups to commercialize these technologies despite facing significant challenges.

Here, we characterised environmental conditions that protect versus erode polymorphic chemical defences in Boechera stricta (Brassicaceae), a short-lived perennial wildflower. By manipulating drought and herbivory in a 4-year field experiment, we measured the effects of driver variation on vital rates of genotypes varying in defence chemistry and then assessed interacting driver effects on total fitness (estimated as each genotype's lineage growth rate, λ) using demographic models.

The purpose of this study was to characterize a cohort of adolescent and young adult patients with ARS with persistent os and compare their radiological and clinical outcomes to patients with acetabular dysplasia without an os.
Methods: We reviewed a prospective database of patients undergoing periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) for symptomatic acetabular dysplasia between January 1999 and December 2021 to identify hips with preoperative os acetabuli, defined as a closed triradiate cartilage but persistence of a superolateral os acetabulum.
Rationale: Induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (iPSC-CMs) are an emerging model for determining drug effects and modeling disease. Specialized devices can generate Extracellular Field Potential (EFP) measurements from these cells, analogous to the ventricular complex of the electrocardiogram.
Objective: The objective of this study was to develop an easy-to-use, easy-to-teach, reproducible software tool to measure EFPs.
In the Anthropocene, the era when the imprint of humans on nature is pervasive across the planet, it is of utmost importance to understand human relationships with other species. The aesthetics of nature, and of species, is one of the values that plays a role in shaping human-nature relationships. Birds are ubiquitous across the world.

This Perspective elucidates the progress, challenges and opportunities in moving MOFs to market, focusing on applied research. The five applied research steps that enable technology development and demonstration are reviewed: synthesis, forming, processing (washing and activation), prototyping and compliance.

Methods: Anthropometric measurements of 992 cadaveric hips from the Hamann-Todd Osteological Collection were analyzed. Femurs with cam morphology were identified by AA >55° or AFNO <7 mm.

However, most LTRE analyses make the unrealistic assumption that the relationships between demographic rates and environmental drivers are linear and independent, which may result in diminished accuracy when these assumptions are violated. We extend regression LTREs to incorporate nonlinear (second-order) terms and compare the accuracy of both approaches for three previously published demographic datasets.

Research Question: What are the biomechanical characteristics of the hip and pelvis in adolescents and young adults diagnosed with FAI syndrome 1) pre-operatively compared to controls and 2) pre- to post-operatively?
Methods: 43 patients with FAI and 43 controls were included in the study.
AbstractIn cooperative breeding systems, inclusive fitness theory predicts that nonbreeding helpers more closely related to the breeders should be more willing to provide costly alloparental care and thus have more impact on breeder fitness. In the red-cockaded woodpecker (), most helpers are the breeders' earlier offspring, but helpers do vary within groups in both relatedness to the breeders (some even being unrelated) and sex, and it can be difficult to parse their separate impacts on breeder fitness. Moreover, most support for inclusive fitness theory has been positive associations between relatedness and behavior rather than actual fitness consequences.

Previous studies have estimated the utility benefits associated with various amounts of weight reduction in the US and Europe, but preferences for weight change in Asian cultures may differ from these published values. The purpose of this study was to estimate utilities associated with reductions in body weight based on preferences of individuals with type 2 diabetes and obesity in Japan.

While promising for a range of selective oxidations, practical use of enzymes catalyzing aerobic hydroxylation is presently limited by their substrate scope and stability under industrially relevant conditions. Here, we report the engineering and practical application of a non-heme iron and α-ketoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase for the direct stereo- and regio-selective hydroxylation of a non-native fluoroindanone en route to the oncology treatment belzutifan, replacing a five-step chemical synthesis with a direct enantioselective hydroxylation.

Proximal femoral locking plates (PFLPs) provide a fixed-angle construct that may reduce the rates of coxa vara, but their use in pediatric femoral neck fractures has not been studied. The purpose of this study was to evaluate rates of union, coxa vara, and AVN in traumatic pediatric femoral neck fractures treated with PFLP or cannulated screws (CS).

Purpose: To investigate any association between femoral and acetabular versions with cam deformity in a largely asymptomatic population.
Study Design: Descriptive laboratory study.
Aims: Abduction bracing is commonly used to treat developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) following closed reduction and spica casting, with little evidence to support or refute this practice. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of abduction bracing after closed reduction in improving acetabular index (AI) and reducing secondary surgery for residual hip dysplasia.
Methods: We performed a retrospective review of patients treated with closed reduction for DDH at a single tertiary referral centre.
Background: Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) has been described as repetitive and abnormal contact between a structurally abnormal proximal femur (cam) and/or acetabulum (pincer), occurring during the terminal range of motion of the hip. While cam and pincer lesions have traditionally been defined as osseous abnormalities, there may be a subset of adolescent patients whose impingement is primarily soft tissue (nonosseous). The existence of a nonosseous cam lesion in adolescents with FAI has not been well described.

However, there are limited data comparing functional outcomes. The purpose of this study was to compare gait and functional outcomes of adolescent/young adult patients with FAI treated by either an arthroscopic or open SHD approach.

In this paper, we have conducted a global study using a sample of 46 countries to evaluate whether these containment measures resulted in unemployment.
Methods: We use a difference-in-differences (DID) specification with a heterogenous intervention to show the varying intensity effect of containment measures on unemployment, on a sample of 46 countries.
Purpose: Although spinal fusion (SF) is considered "definitive" treatment in juvenile/adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (JIS/AIS), complications requiring reoperation continue to occur. The purpose of this study was to characterize the evolving rates of reoperation following SF in JIS/AIS.
Methods: Single-center retrospective review of patients who underwent SF for JIS/AIS as their index surgical treatment between 2013 and 2019.

This article describes a novel system for quantitative and volumetric measurement of tissue elasticity in the prostate using simultaneous multi-frequency tissue excitation. Elasticity is computed by using a local frequency estimator to measure the three-dimensional local wavelengths of steady-state shear waves within the prostate gland. The shear wave is created using a mechanical voice coil shaker which transmits simultaneous multi-frequency vibrations transperineally.

Plants of this species simultaneously produce both chasmogamous (potentially outcrossed) and cleistogamous (obligately self-fertilized) seeds. Restoration practitioners almost exclusively use chasmogamous seeds for outplanting, which are predicted to perform better in novel environments due to their greater genetic diversity.
