Achieving high battery performance from low-cost, easily synthesisable electrode materials is crucial for advancing energy storage technologies. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) combining inexpensive transition metals and organic ligands are promising candidates for high-capacity cathodes. Iron-chloranilate-water frameworks are herein reported to be produced in aqueous media under mild conditions.

Few studies have explored the relationship between metabolomics and contaminants in Arctic wildlife. We analyzed 239 endogenous metabolites and ∼150 persistent organic pollutants (POPs), including total mercury (THg), in the liver of polar bears and their ringed seal prey harvested from low Canadian Arctic (western Hudson Bay; WHB) and high Arctic (HA) locations during 2015-2016.

Because remyelination is often incomplete, better understanding endogenous remyelination and developing remyelination therapies that restore neural function are clinical imperatives. Here, we use in vivo two-photon microscopy and electrophysiology to study the dynamics of endogenous and therapeutic-induced cortical remyelination and functional recovery after cuprizone-mediated demyelination in mice.

Over the past decade, the virtual crossmatch (VXM) has replaced the physical crossmatch (PXM) as the main assessment of pre-transplant histocompatibility. At our center, most transplants have proceeded based solely on the VXM, followed by a retrospective PXM.

TWAS involves imputing gene expression using expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) as predictors and testing the association between the imputed expression and the trait. The effectiveness of TWAS depends on the accuracy of these imputation models, which require genotype and gene expression data from the same samples.

A challenge to the development of effective injury prevention interventions is the limited study pool of detailed activity and outcome data to provide better understanding of the characteristics of injurious events.
Methods: A cross-sectional study of individuals under 16 years of age hospitalised after TPI from November 2018 to December 2021 was conducted.
Conflicts between ICU staff and patient/relatives are common and are a source of additional stress in an already tense environment. These conflicts vary from disagreements to serious controversies, which may lead to legal process or even violence. Unsuccessful communication is recognised as a common denominator for such disagreements.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLipid nanoparticles formed with copolymers are a new and increasingly powerful tool for studying membrane proteins, but the extent to which these systems affect the physical properties of the membrane is not completely understood. This is critical to understanding the caveats of these new systems and screening for structural and functional artifacts that might be caused in the membrane proteins they are used to study. To better understand these potential effects, the fluid properties of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine lipid bilayers were examined by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy with spin-labeled reporter lipids in either liposomes or incorporated into nanoparticles with the copolymers diisobutylene-maleic acid or styrene maleic acid.

Background: Contemporary population-based data examining the rates of cardiac surgery and the relationship between non-dialysis-requiring chronic kidney disease (CKD) and postoperative outcomes in cardiac surgery are limited.
Methods: We identified hospital admissions for cardiac surgical procedures in adults from 2010-2019 in the United States. The primary exposure was kidney disease, categorized as CKD stage G3, CKD stages G4 or G5, and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD).
Background And Aims: Analysis of national colonoscopy quality using automatically uploaded data from a national database, including exploring performance variation.
Methods: Data on all colonoscopies performed in the UK 01/03/2019-29/02/2020 and recorded in the National Endoscopy Database were analysed. Unadjusted key performance indicators were calculated and proportions of endoscopists achieving national standards were determined.
Antibiotic resistance is a global public health threat driven, in part, by antibiotic overprescription. Behavior change theories are increasingly used to try to modify prescriber behavior. A metasynthesis of 8 reviews was conducted to identify factors influencing antibiotic prescribing for adults in hospital settings and to analyze these factors using 4 behavior change frameworks.

One member, KCNE4, has been shown to inhibit the potassium ion current in these channels. However, little is known about the structure, dynamics, and mode of inhibition of KCNE4, likely due to challenges in overexpressing and purifying the protein.

Background: Postural instability is a common observation after concussions, with balance assessments playing a crucial role in clinical evaluations. Widely used post-concussion balance tests focus primarily on static and dynamic balance, excluding the critical aspect of reactive balance.
Objectives: This study investigated the acute and longitudinal effects of concussion on reactive balance in collegiate athletes.
TY1, a synthetic non-coding RNA (ncRNA) bioinspired by small Y RNAs abundant in extracellular vesicles (EVs), decreases cGAS/STING activation in myocardial infarction and thereby attenuates inflammation. Motivated by the concept that heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a systemic inflammatory disease, we tested TY1 in a murine model of HFpEF. Intravenous TY1, packaged in a transfection reagent, reversed the cardiac and systemic manifestations of HFpEF in two-hit obese-hypertensive mice, without inducing weight loss.

To uncover pathways associated with EVALI, we examined cytokines, transcriptomic signatures, and lipidomic profiles in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) from THC-EVALI patients. At a single center, we prospectively enrolled mechanically ventilated patients with EVALI from THC-containing products (N = 4) and patients with non-vaping acute lung injury and airway controls (N = 5).

Detethering can be done concurrently with spinal deformity correction (SDC), before SDC, or not done at all. This study explores perioperative complications in C-EOS patients with and without TSCS who underwent SDC with growing instrumentation or fusion.

However, LGE-MRI images are prone to variable image quality, with quality metrics that do not necessarily correlate to the image's diagnostic quality. In this study, we aimed to define consistent clinically relevant metrics for image and diagnostic quality in 3D LGE-MRI images of the left atrium, have multiple observers assess LGE-MRI image quality to identify key features that measure quality and intra/inter-observer variabilities, and train and test a CNN to assess image quality automatically.

These panels were constructed through the augmentation of the 1000 Genomes Project (1KG) panel using Japanese whole genome sequencing (WGS) data, with sample sizes ranging from 1 K to 7 K individuals enrolled through the Biobank Japan (BBJ) project, and sequencing depths ranging from 3× to 30×. Among these panels, an augmented reference panel comprising 7472 WGS samples of mixed depth (1KG+7K) exhibit the greatest improvement in imputation quality relative to the Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) reference panel.

We characterized postdischarge outpatient health care utilization among HPE Medicaid trauma patients and identified patient access facilitators and barriers once newly insured. We hypothesized utilization would be increased among HPE trauma patients compared with other HPE patients, but that challenges in access to care would remain.
