Immune dysfunction in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has been widely reported and is associated with increased impairments in social interactions, communication, repetitive behaviors, anxiety and gastrointestinal problems. Several lines of evidence point towards increased activation of the innate immune system including activation of microglia, increases in innate inflammatory cytokines/chemokines in blood, brain tissue and CSF, activated dendritic cells and macrophages, and abnormal peripheral monocyte cell function. Monocytes are major players in innate immunity and have important functions in the phagocytosis of pathogens or debris, immune defense and cytokine/chemokine production.

Background: Obstructive complications in the Fontan circulation pose significant risks to affected patients. Traditional management strategies may be insufficient, necessitating innovative treatment approaches. This case report discusses the use of the FlowTriever Retrieval System for percutaneous aspiration thrombectomy in a patient with a history of Fontan procedure who developed conduit obstruction due to thrombus formation.

Objectives: This study sought to compare HPSD 70 W/9-10 s (HPSD-70) with CPD 25-40 W in patients undergoing PVI.
In the United States, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affects 1 in 33 children and is characterized by atypical social interactions, communication difficulties, and intense, restricted interests. Microbial dysbiosis in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is frequently observed in individuals with ASD, potentially contributing to behavioral manifestations and correlating with worsening severity. Moreover, dysbiosis may contribute to the increased prevalence of GI comorbidities in the ASD population and exacerbate immune dysregulation, further worsening dysbiosis.

Background: We present a series of cases in which the induced membrane technique (IMT) was used to treat segmental bone defects from trauma and chronic infection nonunion in the hand and upper extremity. The aims of the study were to present the rates of union and complications using this technique.
Methods: Our institutional database was queried between 2012 and 2018.
Purpose: There are limited data about the outcome of old intensive care (ICU) patients suffering from Covid-19 in the post-vaccination era. This study distinguishes the pre- and post-acute illness living conditions of ICU survivors from non-survivors.
Methods: This prospective international multicenter study included 642 old (≥ 70 years) ICU patients, including data ranging from pre-illness condition to functional 90-days follow-up.

A physical model of soft tissue that provides realistic and real-time haptic and visual feedback is crucial for neurosurgical procedures. This paper investigates the interaction between surgical instruments and soft brain tissue, proposing a soft tissue deformation simulation method based on the principle of energy minimization and constrained energy function. The model includes a permanent deformation energy function induced by friction and a volume preservation energy function to more accurately depict tissue response during procedures such as resection of convex meningiomas and evacuation of intracerebral hematomas.

Methods: In this multicenter trial with a 2-by-2 factorial design, we randomly assigned patients with myocardial infarction who had undergone percutaneous coronary intervention to receive either spironolactone or placebo and either colchicine or placebo.
Transcatheter heart valve embolization is a serious and rare complication of transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Having a strategy for promptly managing transcatheter heart valve embolization is crucial to avoid emergency conversion from transcatheter aortic valve replacement to open-heart surgery. Many cases of transcatheter heart valve embolization occurring with balloon-expandable prostheses such as the SAPIEN 3 (Edwards LifeSciences Corporation) valve and self-expandable prostheses such as the ACURATE neo (Boston Scientific Corporation) valve have been reported in the literature.

While excimer laser coronary angioplasty (ELCA) and intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) are increasingly used to address this issue, their full impact on the integrity of drug-eluting stents remains unclear, raising concerns about their safety and efficacy.
Methods: This in vitro study assessed the effects of ELCA and IVL on the structural integrity of drug-eluting stents using scanning electron microscopy.
