Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and depression co-occur, and rates are on the rise in adolescents, disproportionately affecting teenagers in rural communities and those who identify as members of historically disadvantaged racial/ethnic groups. Addressing the promotion of health behaviors is important for prevention of these comorbid health concerns; however, disparities in their prevalence highlight that a healthy lifestyle is not equally accessible for all individuals. Thus, holistic and multi-level approaches that address structural inequities, leverage cultural and family assets, and are effectively integrated into the community are critically needed.

There is a high need for accessible avenues for improving mental health among emerging adults, particularly on college campuses. Mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) is a promising avenue for reducing mental health symptoms, but initial discomforts associated with MBI may cause symptoms to fluctuate before decreasing, which presents a barrier to engagement with mindfulness on a daily basis. Consistent mindfulness practice is key for forming habits related to MBI, and engagement with mindfulness at home, including between intervention sessions, is an important predictor of mental health outcomes.

A robust supported catalyst that is made up of copper nanoparticles on Celite has been successfully prepared for the selective transfer hydrogenation of aromatic nitrobenzenes to anilines under continuous flow. The method is efficient and environmentally benign thanks to the absence of hydrogen gas and precious metals. Long-term stability studies show that the catalytic system is able to achieve very high nitrobenzene conversion (>99%) when working for up to 145 h.

Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells are widely used to manufacture biopharmaceuticals, most of all monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Some CHO cell lines exhibit production instability, where the productivity of the cells decreases as a function of time in culture. The dynamic manipulation of the properties of soft matter can lead to adaptive functional materials that can be used in advanced applications. Here we report on a new chiral dopant, built on an isosorbide scaffold attached to two bistable hydrazone-based light switches that can be used to control the self-assembly, and hence photophysical properties, of nematic liquid crystals (LCs). The bistability of the switch allows kinetic trapping of various helical assemblies as a function of the photostationary states, resulting in the reflection of different wavelengths of light.

A compact, step range filter proton spectrometer has been developed for the measurement of the absolute DD proton spectrum, from which yield and areal density (ρR) are inferred for deuterium-filled thin-shell inertial confinement fusion implosions. This spectrometer, which is based on tantalum step-range filters, is sensitive to protons in the energy range 1-9 MeV and can be used to measure proton spectra at mean energies of ∼1-3 MeV. It has been developed and implemented using a linear accelerator and applied to experiments at the OMEGA laser facility and the National Ignition Facility (NIF).

The first several campaigns of laser fusion experiments at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) included a family of high-sensitivity scintillator∕photodetector neutron-time-of-flight (nTOF) detectors for measuring deuterium-deuterium (DD) and DT neutron yields.
