Background: Ankle sprains are common and cause persistent ankle function reduction. To biomechanically evaluate the ankle function after ankle sprains, the ground reaction force (GRF) measurement during the single-legged landing had been used. However, previous studies focused on discrete features of vertical GRF (vGRF), which largely ignored vGRF waveform features that could better identify the ankle function.

Cr-doped GaO crystals with a corundum structure were synthesized at high temperature and high pressure, and their excitation as well as fluorescence properties were evaluated. The crystals were green under white light illumination but deep red when exposed to ultraviolet light. This can mainly be attributed to and fluorescence spectra caused by the Cr transition.

Negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centres formed in diamond crystals are point defects that have potential applications in various quantum devices such as highly sensitive magnetic sensors. To improve the sensitivity of magnetic sensors using NV centres, it is essential to precisely control the nitrogen concentration in the crystals. In this paper, we demonstrated that nitrogen concentration in diamond can be controlled with high precision for the following two representative growth methods.

Most of previous photocatalysts contain metal species, thus exploring a metal-free photocatalyst is still challenging. A metal-free photocatalyst has an advantage for the development of economical and non-toxic artificial photosynthesis system and/or environmental purification applications. In this study, rhombohedral boron monosulfide (r-BS) was synthesized by a high-pressure solid-state reaction, and its photocatalytic properties were investigated.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2-I) shows excellent antihypertensive effects in addition to its hypoglycemic effects. However, whether body mass index (BMI) affects the antihypertensive effect of SGLT2-I remains unknown. We investigated the impact of baseline BMI on the achievement of target blood pressure (BP) with SGLT2-I treatment in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Organisms that reproduce sexually have evolved well-organized mechanisms to determine two sexes. Some hymenopterans (such as ants, bees, and wasps) have a complementary sex-determination system in which heterozygosity at one CSD locus induces female development, whereas hemi- or homozygosity at the locus induces male development. This system can generate a high cost of inbreeding, as individuals that are homozygous at the locus become sterile, diploid males.

Boron-based two-dimensional (2D) materials are an excellent platform for nanoelectronics applications. Rhombohedral boron monosulfide (r-BS) is attracting particular attention because of its unique layered crystal structure suitable for exploring various functional properties originating in the 2D nature. However, studies to elucidate its fundamental electronic states have been largely limited because only tiny powdered crystals were available, hindering a precise investigation by spectroscopy such as angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES).

Two-dimensional materials have wide ranging applications in electronic devices and catalysts owing to their unique properties. Boron-based compounds, which exhibit a polymorphic nature, are an attractive choice for developing boron-based two-dimensional materials. Among them, rhombohedral boron monosulfide (r-BS) has recently attracted considerable attention owing to its unique layered structure similar to that of transition metal dichalcogenides and a layer-dependent bandgap.

DNA-protein cross-links (DPCs) are generated by internal factors such as cellular aldehydes that are generated during normal metabolism and external factors such as environmental mutagens. A nucleoside analog, 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine (5-azadC), is randomly incorporated into the genome during DNA replication and binds DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) covalently to form DNMT1-DPCs without inducing DNA strand breaks. Despite the recent progress in understanding the mechanisms of DPCs repair, how DNMT1-DPCs are repaired is unclear.

Following skeletal muscle injury, both myogenic and immune cells interact closely during the regenerative process. Although icing is still a common acute treatment for sports-related skeletal muscle injuries, icing after muscle injury has been shown to disrupt macrophage accumulation and impair muscle regeneration in animal models. However, it remains unknown whether icing shortly after injury affects macrophage-related phenomena during the early stages of muscle regeneration.

Cell migration from the olfactory placode (OP) is a well-known phenomenon wherein various cell types, such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-producing neurons, migrate toward the telencephalon (TEL) during early embryonic development. However, the spatial relationship between early migratory cells and the forebrain is unclear. We examined the early development of whole-mount chick embryos to observe the three-dimensional spatial relationship among OP-derived migratory neurons, olfactory nerve (ON), and TEL.
