The progress of the pillar[5]arene chemistry allowed us to set out a new concept on application of the supramolecular assemblies to create antimicrobial films with variable surface morphologies and biological activities. Antibacterial films were derived from the substituted pillar[5]arenes containing nine pharmacophoric guanidine fragments and one thioalkyl substituent. Changing the only thioalkyl fragment in the macrocycle structure made it possible to control the biological activity of the resulting antibacterial coating.

Moose () recombinant chymosin with a milk-clotting activity of 86 AU/mL was synthesized in the expression system. After precipitation with ammonium sulfate and chromatographic purification, a sample of genetically engineered moose chymosin with a specific milk-clotting activity of 15,768 AU/mg was obtained, which was used for extensive biochemical characterization of the enzyme. The threshold of the thermal stability of moose chymosin was 55 °C; its complete inactivation occurred after heating at 60 °C.

In the last decades, it has been shown that biofilm-associated infections in most cases are caused by rather two or even more pathogens than by single microorganisms. Due to intermicrobial interactions in mixed communities, bacteria change their gene expression profile, in turn leading to alterations in the biofilm structure and properties, as well as susceptibility to antimicrobials. Insulinomatosis is characterized by monohormonality of multiple macro-tumors and micro-tumors that arise synchronously and metachronously in all regions of the pancreas, and often recurring hypoglycemia. One of the main characteristics of insulinomatosis is the presence of insulin-expressing monohormonal endocrine cell clusters that are exclusively composed of proliferating insulin-positive cells, are less than 1 mm in size, and show solid islet-like structure. Research Question: Does complete mechanical removal of the zona pellucida modify the outcome of transfer of vitrified-warmed human blastocysts?

Design: In a prospective randomized controlled study, 419 couples were allocated to either zona pellucida-free (n = 209) or zona intact (n = 210) vitrified-warmed embryo transfer. Main outcome measures included clinical pregnancy, implantation and ongoing pregnancy rates.

Results: Transfer of zona pellucida-free blastocysts resulted in clinical pregnancy, implantation and ongoing pregnancy rates (35,9%, 33,9% and 32,1%, respectively), similar to those achieved with zona intact control embryos (39%, 36,4% and 33,1%, respectively).
