The current study describes how a community-partnered participatory research (CPPR) model was used to enhance hair cortisol research engagement among low-income adults of diverse ethnicities and sexual and gender identities. Participants' reported motivations and concerns surrounding providing a hair sample are also described. Participants from a larger longitudinal study were invited to provide a hair sample and/or complete acceptability interviews.

Effects of Unconventional Work and Shift Work on the Human Gut Microbiota and the Potential of Probiotics to Restore Dysbiosis.

The work environment is a factor that can significantly influence the composition and functionality of the gut microbiota of workers, in many cases leading to gut dysbiosis that will result in serious health problems. The aim of this paper was to provide a compilation of the different studies that have examined the influence of jobs with unconventional work schedules and environments on the gut microbiota of workers performing such work. As a possible solution, probiotic supplements, via modulation of the gut microbiota, can moderate the effects of sleep disturbance on the immune system, as well as restore the dysbiosis produced.

Objective: To compare maternal and perinatal outcomes of migrant Venezuelan women with local pregnant patients in a Colombian institution in the context of a migratory crisis.

Study Design: This cross-sectional study included 11 304 deliveries from the Clínica de Maternidad Rafael Calvo in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, a tertiary referral center on the north coast of Colombia. Data on maternal demographics and perinatal outcomes were obtained by chart review.

Synthesis and Characterization of a Luminescent Cyclic Poly(ethylene oxide)-Polypyridyl Ruthenium Complex.

We report the synthesis of a macrocyclic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) connected by one [Ru(bpy)] unit (where bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine), a photoactive metal complex that provides photosensitivity and potential biomedical applications to this polymer structure. The PEO chain provides biocompatibility, water solubility, and topological play. The macrocycles were successfully synthesized by copper-free click cycloaddition between a bifunctional dibenzocyclooctyne (DBCO)-PEO precursor and 4,4'-diazido-2,2'-bipyridine, followed by complexation with [Ru(bpy)Cl].

We report on two venous arterialization (VA) techniques for treatment of CLTI in patients traditionally considered as having no treatment options for standard arterial endovascular or surgical bypass procedures. Screening and the preprocedural workup findings are outlined as deciding factors in determining a patient's fitness for the two techniques, with a focus on careful preprocedure arterial duplex ultrasound and assessment for vein suitability. Cardiac and infection screening are also factors in determining patient suitability for VA.

The impact of docosahexaenoic acid on maternal mental health: scoping review.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is a polyunsaturated essential fatty acid from the omega-3 series that appears to be key to perinatal mental health. For this, the aim of this review is to evaluate the effect of DHA on maternal mental health during pregnancy and lactation with respect to depression and anxiety. The present scoping review was carried out following the methodology of Arksey and O'Malley (2005).

Design and approval of the nutritional warnings' policy in Peru: Milestones, key stakeholders, and policy drivers for its approval.

Nutritional warnings are used as a public health strategy to address obesity. Peru approved in 2013 and implemented in 2019 a law requiring nutritional warnings on the marketing and packaging of processed foods high in sugar, sodium, saturated fat, and containing trans-fat. The complexity behind the design and approval of these policies over six years provides unique learnings, that inform the obesity prevention context, especially when proposed policies face strong opposition from powerful stakeholders.

Burden of non-communicable diseases and behavioural risk factors in Mexico: Trends and gender observational analysis.

Background: There is scarce gender-disaggregated evidence on the burden of disease (BD) worldwide and this is particularly prominent in low- and middle-income countries. The objective of this study is to compare the BD caused by non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and related risk factors by gender in Mexican adults.

Methods: We retrieved disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) estimates for diabetes, cancers and neoplasms, chronic cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs), and chronic kidney disease (CKD) from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study from 1990-2019.

The spread of the parasite Varroa destructor and associated viruses has resulted in massive honey bee colony losses with considerable economic and ecological impact. Background: Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) panels are increasingly used in advanced patients with cancer to guide therapy. There is, however, controversy about when should these panels be used, and about their impact on the clinical course.
