Experiencing the unexpected death of a classmate is distressing and overwhelming for college-aged students, particularly those in a nursing major who spend a tremendous amount of time together within the classroom and high-stress clinical settings. Previous studies have identified ways to help nursing students understand their grief reactions in response to patient-critical illness or death. However, data related to how the sudden death of a classmate impacts traditional nursing students has been minimally studied.

The Veterans Health Administration (VA) trained teams to implement Staff Training in Assisted Living Residences (STAR)-VA, an intervention to manage DBD in VA nursing home settings, or Community Living Centers (CLCs). This paper summarizes multiyear formative evaluation results including challenges, adaptations, and lessons learned to support sustained integration into usual care across CLCs nationwide.

Purpose: To assess for associations between nursing hours per patient day (NHPPD) and outcome measures in the Veterans Health Administration Community Living Centers.
Health needs assessments identify important issues to be addressed and assist organizations in prioritizing resources. Using data from the Mid-South Congregational Health Survey, top health needs (physical, mental, social determinants of health) were identified, and differences in needs by key demographic variables (age, sex, race/ethnicity, education) were examined. Church leaders and members (N = 828) from 92 churches reported anxiety/depression (65 %), hypertension/stroke (65 %), stress (62 %), affordable healthcare (60 %), and overweight/obesity (58 %) as the top health needs in their congregations.

Methods: Targeted and actual NHPPD were compiled retrospectively for each VHA CLC unit over a one-year timeframe for calendar year 2019. For descriptive analyses, actual NHPPD were averaged across months for each CLC unit.
Background/objectives: COVID-19 has caused significant morbidity and mortality in nursing homes. Vaccination against SARS-COV-2 holds promise for reduction in COVID-19. This operational analysis describes the proportion of SARS-COV-2 positive tests before, during, and after vaccination.

Objective: Develop a congregational health needs assessment tool and implementation protocol with community, health-care, and academic partners.
Importance: Although misalignment of values between physicians and their organization is associated with increased risk of burnout, actionable organizational factors that contribute to perceived values alignment are poorly understood.
Objective: To evaluate the association between the leadership behaviors of immediate supervisors and physicians' perception of personal-organizational values alignment.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This survey study of faculty physicians and physician leaders at Stanford University School of Medicine was conducted from April 1 to May 13, 2019.
Importance: Although leadership behavior of physician supervisors is associated with the occupational well-being of the physicians they supervise, the factors associated with leadership behaviors are poorly understood.
Objective: To evaluate the associations between burnout, professional fulfillment, and self-care practices of physician leaders and their independently assessed leadership behavior scores.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This survey study of physicians and physician leaders at Stanford University School of Medicine (n = 1924) was conducted from April 1 to May 13, 2019.
Superior canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS) is a vestibular disorder caused by a pathologic third window into the labyrinth that can present with autophony, sound- or pressure-induced vertigo, and chronic disequilibrium among other vestibulocochlear symptoms. Careful history taking and examination in conjunction with appropriate diagnostic testing can accurately diagnose the syndrome. Key examination techniques include fixation-suppressed ocular motor examination investigating for sound- or pressure-induced eye movements in the plane of the semicircular canal.

Many physicians feel that the care delivery system has become a barrier to providing high-quality care rather than facilitating it. Although physician distress and some of the contributing factors are now widely recognized, much of the distress physicians are experiencing is related to insidious issues affecting the cultures of our profession, our health care organizations, and the health care delivery system.

Study Design: Retrospective case-control study.
Setting: Tertiary referral center.
Familial dysautonomia (FD) is an autonomic and sensory neuropathy caused by a mutation in the splice donor site of intron 20 of the ELP1 gene. Variable skipping of exon 20 leads to a tissue-specific reduction in the level of ELP1 protein. We have shown that the plant cytokinin kinetin is able to increase cellular ELP1 protein levels in vivo and in vitro through correction of ELP1 splicing.

Initiated by pharmaceutical company scientists, the manual provides guidance for designing a "testing funnel" of assays to identify genuine hits using high-throughput screening (HTS) and advancing them through preclinical development. Combined with a workshop/tutorial component, the overall goal of the AGM is to provide a valuable resource for training translational scientists.

Medical devices such as urinary catheters and central venous catheters have become a part of nursing home care but can predispose residents to associated infections. Because evidence-based prevention bundles were implemented, catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) and central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) were monitored in all U.

Obstetrical nursing offers unique challenges as a specialty clinical area as the process of birth and the nature of the setting are unpredictable. Traditional undergraduate baccalaureate nursing students may not have experience with maternal/newborn care. An eight-hour OB Boot Camp was developed to prepare students for their first obstetrical clinical rotation.

Objective To determine the incidence of surgical complications associated with superior canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS) repair and identify the demographic, medical, and intraoperative risk factors that are associated with SCDS complications. Study Design Cases series with chart review, including patients who underwent SCDS repair between 1996 and 2015. Setting A tertiary care academic medical center.

Patients with a dehiscence in the bone overlying the superior semicircular canal experience symptoms of pressure or sound-induced vertigo, bone conduction hyperacusis, and pulsatile tinnitus. The initial series of patients were diagnosed based on common symptoms, a physical examination finding of eye movements in the plane of the superior semicircular canal when ear canal pressure or loud tones were applied to the ear, and high-resolution computed tomography imaging demonstrating a dehiscence in the bone over the superior semicircular canal.
