Background: The authorization of new therapeutic indications for drugs already reimbursed by the Italian National Health Service (NHS) represents a matter of importance. This study aims to estimate the additional discount attributed to the extension of indications (EoIs) to explore the potential correlation between spending and negotiated discounts and to find specific factors (determinants) that impact on discount.
Methods: The study focused on drugs approved in Italy between 2003 and 2017 with at least four therapeutic indications, including the first approved and EoIs, with follow-up extended until 2021 to acquire all the information on the negotiation process that has been completed.
Heart failure is a serious and challenging medical condition characterized by the inability of the heart to pump blood effectively, leading to reduced blood flow to organs and tissues. Several underlying causes may be linked to this, including coronary artery disease, hypertension, or previous heart attacks. Therefore, it is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management and medical attention.

Methods: We here report our monocenter experience on 64 adult patients receiving allogeneic HSCT from a HLA-mismatched donor between 2014 and 2022 who were tested for the presence of anti-HLA antibodies before transplant, focusing on fifteen patients with non donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies.
Results: The survival of patients with non donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies was inferior with respect to patients without anti-HLA antibodies and similar to patients with DSAs.
Heatwaves and soil droughts are increasing in frequency and intensity, leading many tree species to exceed their thermal thresholds, and driving wide-scale forest mortality. Therefore, investigating heat tolerance and canopy temperature regulation mechanisms is essential to understanding and predicting tree vulnerability to hot droughts. We measured the diurnal and seasonal variation in leaf water potential (Ψ), gas exchange (photosynthesis A and stomatal conductance g), canopy temperature (T), and heat tolerance (leaf critical temperature T and thermal safety margins TSM, i.

However, there is less information about the additive value of FDG PET-based radiomics compared with clinical and imaging variables. : This retrospective study included 320 NSCLC patients who underwent PET/CT with FDG at initial staging.

In this breast cancer mortality and survival study, a US retrospective population-based analysis of 656,501 microscopically confirmed breast cancer cases, 1975-2019, data is derived from the NCI Surveillance Epidemiology & End Results Program, SEER*Stat 8.4.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFDue to several factors, such as environmental and climate changes, the risk of health threats originating at the human-animal-environment interface, including vector-borne diseases (VBDs) and zoonoses, is increasing. Low-resource settings struggle to counter these multidimensional risks due to their already-strained health systems and are therefore disproportionally affected by the impact caused by these changes. Systemic approaches like One Health (OH) are sought to strengthen prevention and preparedness strategies by addressing the drivers of potential threats with a multidisciplinary and multisectoral approach, considering the whole system at the human-animal-environment interface.

Background And Aims: International guidelines advise improving esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) quality in Western countries, where gastric cancer is still diagnosed in advanced stages. This nationwide study investigated some indicators for the quality of EGD performed in endoscopic centers in Italy.
Methods: Clinical, endoscopic, and procedural data of consecutive EGDs performed in one month in the participating centers were reviewed and collected in a specific database.
Background And Aim: Our aim was to evaluate the fluoroscopy time (FT), procedure time (PT) safety and efficacy when using intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) in comparison to transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) guidance for transcatheter closure of Ostium Secundum Atrial Septal Defect (OS-ASD).
Method: Ninety patients (n = 90) diagnosed with OS-ASD underwent transcatheter closure between March 2006 and October 2021. Fifty-seven patients were treated under ICE guidance, while 33 patients were treated under TEE guidance.
Aim: To evaluate the performance of a machine learning model based on demographic variables, blood tests, pre-existing comorbidities, and computed tomography(CT)-based radiomic features to predict critical outcome in patients with acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 694 SARS-CoV-2-positive patients. Clinical and demographic data were extracted from clinical records.
