Aims: Abduction bracing is commonly used to treat developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) following closed reduction and spica casting, with little evidence to support or refute this practice. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of abduction bracing after closed reduction in improving acetabular index (AI) and reducing secondary surgery for residual hip dysplasia.
Methods: We performed a retrospective review of patients treated with closed reduction for DDH at a single tertiary referral centre.
Background: Abduction bracing is commonly used following open reduction and spica casting of developmental dysplasia of the hip. However, there is little evidence to support or refute this practice that carries associated cost and burden for families. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of abduction bracing after open reduction in improving the acetabular dysplasia and reducing the rate of secondary surgery for residual dysplasia.

The rates of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in those referred for hip click vary from 0% to 28%. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the rate of DDH in patients prospectively referred for isolated hip click.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the rates of radiographic dysplasia in breech babies after a normal ultrasound with a minimum of 1 year of radiographic follow-up.
Methods: This study was an institutional review board-approved prospective study of all patients referred by their pediatrician for concern for developmental dysplasia of the hip between July 2008 and August 2014.
This cross-sectional study compared the quality of life and physical health of retirees from the construction industry to that of retirees from more sedentary occupations. The feasibility of cooperation from the unions and their retirees for a larger health study was also examined. The mailed health survey assessed current physical functioning, role limitations as a result of poor health, pain, and past and current problems with falls and injuries.

The engaged university is a descriptive term for linking the different perspectives of university/community partnerships in higher education in the United States. While interest in this idea comes from recent events and processes, there is an historical background for university/community relations that offers important suggestions on the issue related to institutionalizing this concept. The history includes the original religious founding of US institutions, the establishment of the land-grant system of colleges, and the expansion of the mass education system in US universities.

Methods: Forty-seven patients (28 females and 19 males) with a mean age of 51 years (range 29-71) underwent a periodontal examination at baseline (i.e.
Prevotella nigrescens, Prevotella intermedia and Porphyromonas gingivalis are oral pathogens from the family Bacteroidaceae, regularly isolated from cases of gingivitis and periodontitis. In this study, the phylogenetic variability of these three bacterial species was investigated by means of 16S rRNA (rrs) gene sequence comparisons of a set of epidemiologically and geographically diverse isolates. For each of the three species, the rrs gene sequences of 11 clinical isolates as well as the corresponding type strains was determined.

Material And Methods: 172 patients with advanced chronic periodontitis were recruited in 12 centers in 7 countries. All patients had at least one intrabony defect of > or =3mm.
The aim of this investigation was to clinically evaluate the periimplant tissues of titanium fixtures, placed in regions augmented using deproteinized bone mineral, after initial functional loading. The original material included 18 individuals (mean age 71+/-9 years) treated using a graft material, Bio-Oss (6 Patients), or Bio-Oss+autogenous bone mixture (12 patients) for alveolar ridge augmentation. 6 titanium fixtures were placed at the time of ridge augmentation.

Today, however, catalysis by naturally occurring RNAs is rare and most chemical transformations within cells require proteins. This has led to interest in the design of small peptides capable of catalyzing chemical transformations.

Twelve female (age: 37-72 years) and 7 male patients (age: 26-83 years) were evaluated in this study on the basis of availability to follow a rigid SPT program. Patients had received a complete periodontal examination at 1 and 5 years after implant placement.

We have observed that polyethylene glycol-polystyrene (PEG-PS) solid support absorbs added activated fluorophores, preventing efficient labeling of peptide nucleic acids (PNAs). We now report that addition of an inexpensive unactivated fluorophore blocks the resin and allows efficient labeling.

Conditions following incorporation of fixed reconstructions, at endosseous titanium implants augmented at local bony dehiscence and fenestration defects using a bioabsorbable Resolut membrane were studied in 7 patients. Fixture stability, radiographic marginal bone levels and peri-implant soft tissue status were evaluated at 21 membrane treated and 17 control fixtures (installed in regions of adequate bone volume), following a 2-year period of functional loading. Prosthetic reconstructions were removed and clinical examination and Periotest values revealed that all fixtures were stable.

Defect sites had a probing pocket depth > or =5 mm and bled on probing following hygienic treatment phase.

The aim of this study was to evaluate an osteopromotive technique, using a bioabsorbable membrane, for its ability to restitute bone over buccal fenestration and dehiscence defects following fixture installation. 11 patients requiring dental implant treatment and exhibiting sufficient vertical height of the maxilla and compromised bucco-palatal dimensions, as determined clinically and radiographically, were included in the study. 17 Brånemark titanium fixtures were placed with buccal defects which were augmented by a bioabsorbable membrane, Resolut.

OBJECTIVE To compare the provision of health and social services between a social work intervention and non-intervention group. DESIGN Depressed stroke patients were randomly assigned to either an intervention or non-intervention group. Over a 4 month period both groups were visited three times by an independent assessor who rated them on service provision and functional independence.
