After inducing an increase in pulmonary vascular resistance (Rp) in an isolated in situ lobe (LAIS) embolized with gelfoam (GE), the effect of dopamine infused at 12 mcg/kg/min in eight mongrel dogs was evaluated. We studied the rectilinear pressure-flow (QL/PL) relationship, the hemodynamic and blood gas before (condition A), 15 minutes later GE (condition B) and after dopamine infusion (condition C). After GE a decrease in QL and an increase in inflow (PL) and mean critical closing pressures (PLi) were noticed (p less than 0.

The ESCA depth profiling experiments involved several elemental analyses (Na, Ba, O, B, Si, Al, and C) for both the product-contact surface and various depths (0.01-0.

In the absence of added CaCl(2), losses in phosphatidylcholine and other phospholipids corresponds to increase in fatty acids without the accumulation of either phosphatidic acid or lyso-phosphatidylcholine.

Published data on the use of transtelephonic electrocardiographic monitoring for evaluation of episodic symptoms suggestive of cardiac arrhythmia are sparse and conflicting. We have reviewed the use of one such device 'Cardiomemo' on our unit over an 18 month period. The study showed that transtelephonic electrocardiographic monitoring is useful in documentation of infrequent or sporadic episodes directly related to symptoms when 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiograph monitoring is normal.

The present study correlates the NMR changes with histological changes in the regressing tumour. Mammary tumours were examined by NMR before, and 2 and 14 days after, ovariectomy or sham-ovariectomy.

I do not for an instant suggest that these issues will be easily resolved or resolved quickly. We are all anxious to find solutions that work.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA yeast genomic library in the bacteriophage expression vector lambda gt11 was screened with a polyclonal anti-holo-ATPase antiserum resulting in the isolation of 54 immunoreactive clones. Four of these phage clones express in bacteria a polypeptide antigenically related to an 18 kDa subunit (P18) of the yeast mitochondrial ATPase complex. Molecular analysis of the yeast DNA inserts in these phage clones revealed two classes of yeast DNA that share little homology at the nucleotide sequence level and therefore may represent distinct separate genes.

The results demonstrated tumor cells infiltrating the surface meninges and a severe astrocytic reaction associated with oedema in the periventricular and brain stem subpial white matter. This was not seen in cortical or other gray matter structures.

Two patients with only one third of the splenium remaining demonstrated disconnection syndromes involving all modalities except vision, which was completely intact. Five patients had lesions involving the rostrum and the anterior two thirds to four fifths of the body of the callosum, with the splenium spared.

We have evaluated two fluorinated misonidazole analogues, Ro 07-0741 and CCI-103F, as potential probes for the non-invasive identification of hypoxic tumor cells by 19F magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in vivo. The equipment used was a 1.9 T Oxford Research Systems TMR-32 spectrometer, fitted with a 15 mm diameter surface coil.

Phosphorus-31 magnetic resonance spectra were obtained from the RIF-1 tumor in C3H mice before and up to 2 days after various doses of X rays. Parallel studies were performed to measure relative changes in tumor blood perfusion using [14C]iodo-antipyrine and changes in % tumor necrosis using Chalkley's method. Tumor ratios of phosphocreatine to inorganic phosphate (PCr/Pi) and nucleotide triphosphates to inorganic phosphate (NTP/Pi) as well as pH as measured by 31P-MRS increased significantly at most time points after irradiation with doses of 5, 10, and 20 Gy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe vascular pressure-flow relationship (P-QL) in West's zone II condition were studied in isolated, in situ, canine, left lower lobe (ISLL) in order to characterize the total resistance in the pulmonary vascular bed (Rp), the normal values for pulmonary vascular conductance (Cv) and for critical closing pressure (PLc). After the basal parameters were obtained, measurements of Cv and PLc were done every 30' in order to know the natural history (NH) of this canine ISLL preparation. The P-QL relationship of the pulmonary vasculature of the ISLL preparation, perfused under classical zone II conditions, can be characterized by a rectilinear segment at high flow, a curvilinear segment at low flow and a pulmonary arterial pressure that exceeds alveolar (PA) pressure at zero flow.
