Reverse micelles (RMs) are spontaneously organizing nanobubbles composed of an organic solvent, surfactants, and an aqueous phase that can encapsulate biological macromolecules for various biophysical studies. Unlike other RM systems, the 1-decanoyl-rac-glycerol (10MAG) and lauryldimethylamine-N-oxide (LDAO) surfactant system has proven to house proteins with higher stability than other RM mixtures with little sensitivity to the water loading (W, defined by the ratio of water to surfactant). We investigated this unique property by encapsulating three model proteins - cytochrome c, myoglobin, and flavodoxin - in 10MAG/LDAO RMs and applying a variety of experimental methods to characterize this system's behavior.

Alliancing, whereby services work collaboratively focusing on the 'whole-system', has gained popularity as a tool with the potential to support collaborative whole systems approaches. This synthesis aims to identify how alliancing can be successfully operationalised in the commissioning of public health, wider National Health Service (NHS) and social care-related services.

This is a paper showing how a concept central to the work of Wilfred Bion, and one of Klein's important recommendations concerning the practice of analysis with adults and small children, can both be seen in the light of Freud's earliest formulation of the origin of anxiety and the mother's first responses to her infant in distress. In the paper I suggest that these clinically influential concepts of Klein and Bion show an underlying consistency and affinity with Freud's early ideas about the management of anxiety in the mother-infant relationship, described in two of his pre-psychoanalytic writings, How Anxiety Originates (1894b), and The Project for a Scientific Psychology (1950 [1895]). The specific mode of operation of psychoanalytic interpretation is clarified by the comparisons made, with no attempt to suggest that Klein or Bion based their concepts upon these particular early formulations of Freud's.

Methods: Four institutions with extensive brachytherapy experience each submitted details of more than 40 implants. The data was used to generate power and linear equations to reflect the relationship between preimplant volume and the number of seeds implanted, and preimplant volume and the total implant activity.
In the present work, we used virtual screening (VS) of the ZINC database of 2.5 million compounds to seek new PI3K inhibitory scaffolds. The VS flowchart implemented various filters, including a 3D-database screen, and extensive docking studies, to derive 89 derivatives that were experimentally assayed against the four PI3K isoforms.

PIK3CA codes for the p110alpha isoform of class-IA PI 3-kinase and oncogenic mutations in the helical domain and kinase domain are common in several cancers. We studied the biochemical properties of a common helical domain mutant (E545K) and a common kinase domain mutant (H1047R). Both retain the ability to autophosphorylate Ser608 of p85alpha and are also inhibited by a range of PI 3-kinase inhibitors (Wortmannin, LY294002, PI-103 and PIK-75) to a similar extent as WT p110alpha.

Methods And Material: Three institutions with extensive prostate brachytherapy expertise submitted information regarding their implant philosophy and dosimetric constraints, as well as data on up to 50 radioiodine implants. Regression analyses were performed to reflect each institution's utilization of seeds and implanted activity.
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is increasingly popular among patients receiving radiation therapy. However, there is little empirical evidence relating to the interactions of radiation therapists and their patients regarding the use of CAM during treatment. The study objectives were to quantify how often the issue of CAM use arises in the therapists' daily practice, to explore radiation therapists' knowledge and attitudes about CAM use by their patients, and to identify areas for future education and development for therapists.

An isoquinoline derivative shows good selectivity for the p110alpha isoform over p110beta and p110delta, and also demonstrates good in vitro activity in a cell proliferation assay. Molecular modelling provides a rationalisation for the observed SAR.

The psychophysiological literature on psychopathy is reviewed in the context of low-arousal theory. Difficulties in the theory are discussed both in general terms and specifically in relation to psychopathy. Contrary to the low-arousal theory, the data indicate that psychopaths exhibit a wider degree of variability in arousal levels and reactivity than normal indiciduals.
