VBIT-4 is a new inhibitor of the oligomerization of VDAC proteins of the outer mitochondrial membrane preventing the development of oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cell death in various pathologies. However, as a VDAC inhibitor, VBIT-4 may itself cause mitochondrial dysfunction in healthy cells. The article examines the effect of VBIT-4 on the functional activity of rat liver mitochondria and cell cultures.

More than 40 genes are now known to be associated with ALS, which together account for the majority of familial forms of ALS and only 10% of sporadic ALS cases. To date, there is no consensus on the pathogenesis of ALS, which makes it difficult to develop effective therapy.

There was studied the state of macroscopic picture of stomach and small intestine, qualitative and quantitative lipid composition, lipid peroxidation, phospholipase A2, catalase, superoxide dismutase in stomach tissues, small intestine and blood plasma.
Anaferon (pediatric formulation) reduces the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections in sickly children and children with bronchial asthma and has a positive effect on the course of asthma. The preparation produces an immunomodulating effect (increases initially low IFN-gamma levels and normalizes elevated levels of IL-1beta), stimulates synthesis of IgA and IgG, exhibits cytoprotective activity, and improves local immunity of the upper airways in sickly children.

Neuropeptide FF antagonists and centrally active thyrotropin-releasing hormone analogues were used as specific examples in this work. We evaluated the characterization of focused libraries of peptide derivatives by electrospray ionization, tandem mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry on a quadrupole ion trap and nanoelectrospray on a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer.

This result suggested that the Martian regolith might hold a potent oxidant that converts all organic molecules to carbon dioxide rapidly relative to the rate at which they arrive. This conclusion is influencing the design of Mars missions.

An alternative model of organization of the structure of ternary complex "antigen-molecule" of the main complex of histocompatible class II (MHC II)--antigenic receptor of T-cells (TCR) is suggested. In contrast to the already developed ones the new model foresees TCR interaction with only one (beta)-chain of the molecule MHC (II), with its surface site having the structure of alpha-spiral. The second (alpha)-chain of the molecule MHC II performs only antigen-binding and supporting function.
