Objectives: In this study, we compared the performance of ChatGPT-3.5 to that of ChatGPT-4o in the context of the Japanese National Dental Examination, which assesses clinical reasoning skills and dental knowledge, to determine their potential usefulness in dental education.

Methods: ChatGPT's performance was assessed using 1399 (55% of the exam) of 2520 questions from the Japanese National Dental Examinations (111-117).

A 21 year-old Japanese man had a rapidly growing pedunculated soft tumor in the abdomen within the past year, the base of which had persisted for 17 years. A skin biopsy of the soft part resembled neurofibroma. However, the excised specimen showed that the tumor base comprised spindle cells arranged in a storiform fashion and expanded around fat cells with a honeycomb infiltration.

Natronomonas pharaonis halorhodopsin (NpHR) is a light-driven Cl inward pump that is widely used as an optogenetic tool. Although NpHR is previously extensively studied, its Cl uptake process is not well understood from the protein structure perspective, mainly because in crystalline lattice, it has been difficult to analyze the structural changes associated with the Cl uptake process. In this study, we used solid-state NMR to analyze NpHR both in the Cl-bound and -free states under near-physiological transmembrane condition.

Accuracy of robotic arm-assisted versus computed tomography-based navigation in total hip arthroplasty using the direct anterior approach: a retrospective study.

Background: A robotic arm-assisted and a computed tomography (CT)- based navigation system have been reported to improve the accuracy of component positioning in total hip arthroplasty (THA). However, no study has compared robotic arm-assisted THA (rTHA) to CT-based navigated THA (nTHA) concerning accuracy of cup placement and acetabular fractures using the direct anterior approach (DAA). This study aimed to compare the accuracy of cup placement and the presence of intraoperative acetabular fractures between rTHA and nTHA using DAA in the supine position.

The Relationship between the Measured Blood Concentration of Rocuronium in Stable Muscle Relaxation with a Closed-Loop Control and the Estimated Blood Concentration from a Pharmacokinetic Simulation.

We developed a system to adjust the rate of a continuous rocuronium (Rb) infusion to achieve 3 ≤ %T1 ≤ 10 with a closed-loop control. Samples were collected from 15 patients, and Rb blood concentrations were measured at the following time points: (1) when %T1 recovered to 3% or more after the initial Rb infusion; (2) when %T1 stabilized within the target range; (3) at the cessation of the Rb infusion; (4) 5 min after the sugammadex administration. The predicted Rb blood concentration at each time point was calculated and recorded using the pharmacokinetic parameters of Wierda et al.

This study investigated how membrane thickness and tension modify the gating of KcsA potassium channels when simultaneously varied. The KcsA channel undergoes global conformational changes upon gating: expansion of the cross-sectional area and longitudinal shortening upon opening. Background & Aims: Serum retinol (ROH) is commonly used for population level assessment of vitamin A status. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is considered most accurate method for measuring ROH. However, with the technical difficulty of using HPLC for routine assays, serum retinol-binding protein (RBP) measured by immunological assays is expected to be a surrogate marker for ROH, with reports of a close correlation between serum RBP and ROH.

Prognostic Factors for Japanese Adults With Acute Community-Acquired Bacterial Meningitis: A Retrospective Study.

Background This study aimed to determine if the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cell count is useful for predicting the infection severity or prognosis in Japanese adults with community-acquired bacterial meningitis. Methodology This study retrospectively evaluated the prognosis of patients diagnosed with community-acquired bacterial meningitis at our hospital from January 2004 to December 2021 using the modified Rankin scale (mRs) (Showa General Hospital; N = 39). Patients were classified into the following two groups: (i) favorable (mRs: 0-3) and (ii) unfavorable (mRs: 4-6).

Effect of age and gender on ventricular-arterial coupling estimated using a non-invasive technique.

Background: Left ventricular-arterial coupling is assessed as the ratio of left ventricular end-systolic elastance (Ees) to arterial elastance (Ea). Previous studies have introduced non-invasive estimations of Ees/Ea. It requires only four variables, namely pre-ejection period, ejection time, end-systolic pressure and diastolic pressure.

Fracture risk assessment of vascularized medial femoral condylar bone graft: A finite element analysis.

Background: Vascularized medial femoral condyle (MFC) bone graft is useful for pseudarthrosis and osteonecrosis, but has the risk of fracture as a complication. This study aimed to create multiple three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) femur models to biomechanically evaluate the fracture risk in the donor site of a vascularized MFC bone graft.

Methods: Computer tomography scans of the femurs of nine patients (four males and five females) with no left femur disease were enrolled in the study.

We tested the hypothesis that the cerebellar vermis plays a substantial role in acquiring predictive postural control by using a standing task with floor disturbances in rats. The intact, lesioned, and sham groups of rats sequentially underwent 70 conditioned floor-tilting trials, and kinematics were recorded.

A novel method for background signal suppression is introduced to improve the selectivity of dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) NMR spectroscopy in the study of target molecules within complex mixtures. The method uses subtraction between positively and negatively enhanced DNP spectra, leading to an improved contrast factor, which is the ratio between the target and background signal intensities. The proposed approach was experimentally validated using a reverse-micelle system that confines the target molecules together with the polarizing agent, OX063 trityl.

Efficacy of repeated administration of intravenous acetaminophen for pain management after total knee arthroplasty.

Intravenous acetaminophen is an integral component of multimodal postoperative pain management. This prospective study aims to assess the efficacy of the repeated administration of intravenous acetaminophen and the impact on postoperative patient satisfaction with postoperative pain management after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). We enrolled 98 patients scheduled for unilateral TKA.

Anesthesia Management via an Automated Control System for Propofol, Remifentanil, and Rocuronium Compared to Management by Anesthesiologists: An Investigator-Initiated Study.

Background: We previously developed an automated total intravenous anesthesia control system that uses new closed-loop system algorithms to administer propofol, remifentanil, and rocuronium based on the bispectral index and train-of-four data. We recently improved this automated control system by adding a safety mechanism and using a modified monitoring device.

Methods: Patients scheduled for elective surgery were randomly assigned to closed-loop feedback control (automatic group) or the manual administration of propofol, remifentanil, and rocuronium (manual group).
