Albendazole (7.5 mg/kg of body weight) was given to 10 calves naturally infected with gastrointestinal nematodes. Ten similar calves served as controls.

Vaccines against infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), bovine parainfluenza-3 (PI-3), and bacterin against Pasteurella hemolytica and P. multocida were studied to determine their effectiveness when given 30 days before weaning in preventing respiratory disease in beef calves after weaning. A total of 310 calves, 6 to 8 months old, were divided into 3 groups.

All three hormone levels were raised when compared with the non-pregnant state. There were significant differences in mean maternal plasma testosterone levels at 4 to 5 and 7 to 8 weeks gestation, when comparing women carrying male and female fetuses.

Two brothers of Greek Cypriot origin, karyotype 46 XY, aged 17 and 19 years were brought up as females because of predominantly female external genitalia with clitoromegaly and urogenital sinus. At puberty there was genital masculinization with testicular enlargment and descent and development of male musculature and body habitus without gynaecomastia. Both subjects acquired male gender identity and changed from a female to a male gender role.

Fifteen gilts of breeding age were studied. Four received three 4 ml. doses three weeks apart of an experimental killed swine influenza vaccine containing A/Swine/ill/65 antigen, four received three ml.

The samples were obtained from patients attending an infertility clinic and separated into four groups according to the number of spermatozoa. Levels of HPr, LH, and FSH showed significant positive correlations with sperm counts.

The detection and the distribution of antibody response in lacrimal secretions of beef calves to natural exposure of M bovis were determined by an indirect fluorescent antibody test. Three classes of immunoglobulins--secretory IgA, IgM, and IgG--were monitored in lacrimal secretions over a 5-month period when IBK was enzootic in the herd.

There were no significant (P = less than 0.05) differences in results of weight gain, packed cell volumes, numbers of eggs per gram of feces, or numbers of helminths between the 2 groups of lambs.

Determinations of numbers of oocysts discharged, quantities of feces discharged, feed consumption, and weight gain were made for female and male lambs in each group. The effect of experimentally induced and naturally occurring coccidiosis on the performance of each group was compared.

Twenty-four cross-bred gilts of breeding age were used in two studies to access the antigenic response to commercially produced human influenza vaccintes containing A/New Jersey/76 viral antigens. In experiments 1 only one of seven animals responded with an HI antibody titer of 1:40 or above. In the second experiment five of six gilts responded to higher dosages of vaccine with HI antibody titers of 1:40 or above.

The concentration of freely extractable testosterone in amniotic fluid was measured in 54 patients whose gestational ages ranged from 10 to 20 weeks; 31 of the fetuses were male and 23 were female. The mean amniotic fluid testosterone concentration was significantly higher with a male fetus than with a female fetus. On only 7 out of 31 occasions was the presence of a male fetus associated with amniotic fluid testosterone values below 100 pg/ml, whereas the values associated with a female fetus were never higher than 90 pg/ml.

The temperature (15 or 30 C) at which Haemonchus contortus larvae were allowed to develop to the infective (3rd) stage and the temperature at which they were subsequently stored (4, 15, or 30 C) had no effect on the occurrence of developmental arrest (larval impasse) of the larvae in infected lambs. If a large inoculating dose (10,000 larvae) was given to the lambs, a smaller percentage of nematodes was retained (14.2%) then if a small dose (1,000 larvae, 25.

In patients receiving scrotal in addition to para-aortic and pelvic lymph node irradiation azoospermia occurred in 17 out 18 specimens examined, whereas in those patients not requiring scrotal irradiation, restoration of spermatogenesis occurred. The difference is a result of the increased dose of radiation received by the remaining testicle when the contralateral side of the scrotum is irradiated.

The rationale of anti-androgen treatment for hirsutism is explained. The results are presented of treatment with cyproterone acetate of idiopathic hirsutism or hirsutism associated with polycystic ovarian disease. Ten out of 14 patients showed a good response after six months treatment.

Incubation of syngeneic B40 lymphoma or allogeneic B16 melanoma cells with peritoneal macrophages or with macrophage culture supernatant fluids (SF) resulted in decreased target cell DNA synthesis and growth; in contrast, nontumorigenic syngeneic 3T3 fibroblasts were stimulated by macrophages but SF exerted no significant effects. Lipopolysaccharide activation of macrophages did not induce cytotoxicity for any target cell tested, and did not enhance the observed tumoristatic effects.
