In the present work, for the first time, mechanical activation implemented in a rotor-stator device (RSD) has been used to enhance the formation of the amylоse-fatty acid complex in gelatinized starch at a moderate temperature (40 °C) using oleic acid (ОА) as a model guest compound. Mechanical activation was found to cause an increase in the complexing index from 10 to 30 % for non-activated mixtures to 83-92 %. The study of aqueous and dried starch-OA mixtures using optical and AFM microscopy and dynamic light scattering methods revealed a uniform distribution of amylose-OA complex particles with a size of 125-260 nm in the starch matrix.

The aim of this study is to obtain and characterize starch films structurally modified by in situ precipitation of BaSO combined with mechanical activation of casting dispersion in a rotor-stator device. By the rheological method, it was found that the modification causes a decrease in the ability of casting dispersions to structure over time. Composite films with a filler content of 0 %-15 % (w/w) were characterized using optical and SEM microscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, and tensile and moisture resistance testing data.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are recently-discovered transcripts involved in gene expression regulation and associated with diseases. Despite the unprecedented molecular complexity of these transcripts, recent studies of the secondary and tertiary structure of lncRNAs are starting to reveal the principles of lncRNA structural organization, with important functional implications. It therefore starts to be possible to analyze lncRNA structures systematically.

Multilayered magnetoelectric materials are of great interest for investigations due to their unique tuneable properties and giant values of magnetoelectric effect. The flexible layered structures consisting of soft components can reveal lower values of the resonant frequency for the dynamic magnetoelectric effect appearing in bending deformation mode. The double-layered structure based on the piezoelectric polymer polyvinylidene fluoride and a magnetoactive elastomer (MAE) with carbonyl iron particles in a cantilever configuration was investigated in this work.

Polymer-based multiferroics, combining magnetic and piezoelectric properties, are studied experimentally-from synthesis to multi-parameter characterization-in view of their prospects for fabricating biocompatible scaffolds. The main advantage of these systems is facile generation of mechanical deformations and electric signals in response to external magnetic fields. Herein, we address the composites based on PVDF-TrFE polymer matrices filled with a combination of piezoelectric (BaTiO BTO) and/or ferrimagnetic (ZnCoFeO, ZCFO) particles.

Multiferroics are materials that electrically polarize when subjected to a magnetic field and magnetize under the action of an electric field. In composites, the multiferroic effect is achieved by mixing of ferromagnetic (FM) and ferroelectric (FE) particles. The FM particles are prone to magnetostriction (field-induced deformation), whereas the FE particles display piezoelectricity (electrically polarize under mechanical stress).

Magnetic oxides are promising materials for alternative health diagnoses and treatments. The aim of this work is to understand the dependence of the heating power with the nanoparticle (NP) mean size, for the manganite composition LaSrMnO (LSMO)-the one with maximum critical temperature for the whole La/Sr ratio of the series. We have prepared four different samples, each one annealed at different temperatures, in order to produce different mean NP sizes, ranging from 26 nm up to 106 nm.

Polymer-based magnetoelectric composite materials have attracted a lot of attention due to their high potential in various types of applications as magnetic field sensors, energy harvesting, and biomedical devices. Current researches are focused on the increase in the efficiency of magnetoelectric transformation. In this work, a new strategy of arrangement of clusters of magnetic nanoparticles by an external magnetic field in PVDF and PFVD-TrFE matrixes is proposed to increase the voltage coefficient (α) of the magnetoelectric effect.

The effect of composition and mechanoactivation in the rotor-stator device on the rheological and film-forming properties of casting blends based on corn starch and chitosans with high (HDC) and low (LDC) deacetylation degree was studied. Films were characterized using optical and atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, FTIR-spectroscopy and by tensile and moisture permeability testing data. An increase in chitosan content was found to result in the blends viscosity increase as well as the tensile strength, elongation and moisture permeability of films.

Acupuncture has been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an alternative and complementary method for treating stroke and a way to increase the effectiveness of rehabilitation. The data available in the literature suggest that acupuncture has a beneficial effect on the status of patients with stroke. The mechanism of action of acupuncture for stroke includes the following components: 1) stimulation of neurogenesis and cell proliferation in the CNS; 2) regulation of cerebral blood flow; 3) antiapoptosis; 4) regulation of neurotransmitters; 5) improvement of the neuronal synaptic function, stimulation of long-term potentiation; 6) stimulation of neuroplasticity; and 7) decrease in blood-brain barrier permeability.

We present the results of numerical simulation of magnetodielectric effect (MDE) in magnetorheological elastomers (MRE)-the change of effective permittivity of elastomer placed under the external magnetic field. The computer model of effect is based on an assumption about the displacement of magnetic particles inside the elastic matrix under the external magnetic field and the formation of chain-like structures. Such displacement of metallic particles between the planes of capacitor leads to the change of capacity, which can be considered as a change of effective permittivity of elastomer caused by magnetic field (magnetodielectric effect).

In this work, we studied the structural, morphological and chemical transformations in α- chitin, caused by its mechanical activation in the form of an aqueous suspension in the rotor-stator device for 5-30 s. Mechanically activated chitin (MA-chitin) was characterized using optical and electron scanning microscopy, N adsorption/desorption isotherms, X-ray diffraction and FTIR-spectroscopy. It was established that the specific surface area, porosity and the deacetylation degree of chitin increase with increasing processing time, and the decrease in crystallinity and reducing the packing density of macromolecular chains does not correlate with this indicator due to the development of recrystallization.

The synthesis, characterization and environmental application of chitosan based material stable in acidic media for adsorption of anionic dyes were investigated. The adsorption material is chitosan nanoparticles immobilized on a fibrous carrier (CPF). The choice of optimal conditions for the preparation of chitosan particles and their immobilization on a chemically activated polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber is justified.

Neuroprotective properties of the new derivative of glutamic and apovincaminic acids, ethyl -(3-alpha,16-alpha)-eburnamenin-14-carbopxylate of 2-aminopentadionic acid (LHT 1-02) were studied on a model of acute brain ischemia in cats. LHT 1-02 has proved to be more effective than the reference drugs vinpocetin and glycine in preventing the reperfusive damage, which was manifested by decreased postischemic hyperglycemia, activated utilization of oxygen in the brain, and suppressed postischemic metabolic lactate acidosis. Thus, the results of this comparative study show expediency of further investigations of LHT 1 - 02 as a potential neuroprotective drug.

The levels of neurospecific peptides in the systemic circulation and the rate of biological aging of veterans of war in Afghanistan were studied. A significant increase in the level of matrix metalloproteinase-9 reflecting the increased permeability of the blood-brain barrier in the initial manifestations of insufficient blood supply to the brain was found. After a course of general aerocryotherapy the optimization of biological and cardiopulmonary age were marked, which indicates a slowing of the biological aging.
