This paper reports a comprehensive investigation of a magnetic nanoparticle (MNP), named M55, which belongs to a class of innovative doped ferrite nanomaterials, characterized by a self-limiting temperature. M55 is obtained from M48, an MNP previously described by our group, by implementing an additional purification step in the synthesis. M55, after citrate and glucose coating, is named G-M55.

Mixed NOP/opioid receptor agonists elicit similar effects to strong opioids but with reduced side effects. In this work, 31 peptides with the general sequence [Tyr/Dmt,Xaa]N/OFQ(1-13)-NH were synthesized and pharmacologically characterized for their action at human recombinant NOP/opioid receptors.

Because of their antitumour activity, different classes of proteasome inhibitors have been identified to date. Some of these compounds are currently employed in the clinical treatment of several types of cancer among which multiple myeloma.

However, the paucity of specialist treatment providers limits treatment uptake; therefore, our group developed the intensive family therapy (IFT)-a 5-day treatment based on the principles of family-based therapy for EDs. We retrospectively examined the long-term efficacy of IFT in both single-family (S-IFT) and multi-family (M-IFT) settings evaluating 74 eating disordered adolescents who underwent IFT at the University of California, San Diego, between 2006 and 2013.

In this paper we have tested magnetic nanoparticles called magnetosomes (MNs): a class of MNPs naturally produced by magnetotactic bacteria. We extracted MNs from Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense strain MSR-1 and tested the interaction with cellular elements and anti-neoplastic activity both in vitro and in vivo, with the aim of developing new therapeutic approaches for neoplastic diseases.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively studied 10 consecutive patients (3 F, 7 M, mean age 32 yrs), all with a genetically demonstrated SDH mutation (5 SDH-D, 4 SDH-B, and 1 SDH-C) and all addressed to F-DOPA PET/CT scan. Seven patients had already been operated on for one or more pheochromocytomas and/or paragangliomas and were submitted to F-DOPA PET/CT scan according to clinical, biochemical, or radiological suspicion of recurrence, while 3 were only genetically positive, with no previous symptom/sign of the disease.
Background And Aim: Oesophageal cancer (OC) is a highly aggressive tumour with unfavorable prognosis due to early stages metastases. Treatment and survival rates are highly correlated with tumour wall invasion, lymphatic involvement and metastatic spread. Thus, an accurate staging at initial diagnosis is fundamental for optimal management.

We previously reported that the cysteine protease cathepsin K (ctsk) is overexpressed in the white adipose tissue (WAT) of obese individuals. We herein characterized the WAT and the metabolic phenotype of ctsk deficient animals (ctsk-/-).

Patients And Methods: Patients (1703) were accrued between March 1992 and February 1995 in a large-scale clinical trial within five Italian cooperative groups. After stratification for center, patients were randomized as follows: arm A, 5-fluorouracil [450 mg/m(2) intravenous (i.
1 This study reports on the pharmacological characterization of ZP120, a novel ligand of the nociceptin/orphanin FQ (N/OFQ) peptide receptor, NOP. ZP120 is a structure inducing probes modified NOP ligand: Zealand Pharma proprietary SIP technology was used to increase the enzymatic stability and half-life of peptide. 2 In vitro, ZP120 mimicked the inhibitory effects of N/OFQ in the electrically stimulated mouse vas deferens, showing however higher potency (pEC(50) 8.

A recent study reported that approximately 30% of tumor biopsies from ovarian cancer patients exhibited erbB2 amplification and overexpression and suggested that the overexpression of this oncogene is an indicator of bad prognosis in ovarian cancer. The purpose of our studies was to investigate amplification of the erbB2 gene, the levels of erbB2 m-RNA and the erbB2 product (p185) in ovarian cancer, and the correlation between these findings and the pathological and clinical features.
